In propositional logic, affirming the consequent, sometimes called converse error, fallacy of the converse, or confusion of necessity and sufficiency, is a formal fallacy of taking a true conditional statement (e.g., "if the...
Iowa is the only state that prohibits competing against pros or collegians. Sahlman is breaking no rule.
Yes he is breaking a rule if you run any such races during the regularly scheduled CIF season. It's a new rule this year and is dumb. How could it be anything else where you have Chicks with D&*Ks race against other females. Well....because that's supposed to be fair.

1:49.19, in 6th in heat 4 at BC. Maybe he'll start realizing his future is with distances longer than the 800.
What a shame. He could've done this at any old HS meet and retained his eligibility.
Per CIF Bylaws:
215. INTERCOLLEGIATE PARTICIPATION
A student who participates in an intercollegiate athletic contest prior to the completion of his/her eight (8) consecutive semesters of high school eligibility shall be ineligible for high school participation in that sport for the duration of the student’s high school enrollment. (See also Bylaws 600.G and 702. and corresponding Q&A’s.)

Q: What is defined as a collegiate track meet and/or intercollegiate competition?
A: A collegiate track meet and/or intercollegiate competition is one in which collegiate athletes are competing for or representing their school.
Welcome to college track...where 1:49 is a dime a dozen. Possibility for a decent 1500/5000 guy with some real miles under is belt though. However, he could get that about anywhere. You distance guys fawn over some kid that's kinda fast for a hs kid but don't realize that it doesn't mean squat at the collegiate level until you start hitting 1:47 and below. Time to move up in mileage and racing distance. Give him a couple years and he may develop if he isn't burnt out from all the bro-hype on some ambiguous "running" forum.
After all was said and done, more was said than done.
Where is Aaron getting all this advice? People that love the UCLA coach have not followed the college running that close for many years. Aaron has tremendous talent but 1:49 800 meter runners does not achieve much succcess at this level. 4 minute milers does not achieve much success at this level. These are just facts. Let Aaron make these decisind by himself, live and learn. Coach Smith knows what he is doing. NAU has produced champions from 1500 meters up to 10000 meters. At the end of 4 years in college Aaron will have figured it out, Coach Smith will have figured it out. when UCLA gets to the level of NAU in distance running let me know. Right now to put UCLA and NAU in the same paragraph for distance running is insane. the only recruiting that UCLA is able to get is ex runners of Newbury Park or transfers that he knew from high school. What nationally ranked high school runners have been recruited?

He’s faster than Coe was at 17
While this may be true, I'm pretty sure Peter Coe completely understood the potential of his kid and wouldn't let a club/hs coach within a 100k of him to ruin him in 3+ years by overtraining him just to make a name for himself. He was long sighted and together, they achieved most everything possible against the competition of the time. A world beater. Let the haters now begin saying it was steroids.
Kids achieving at high levels today don't necessarily have much left after overtraining through hs. We'll see with this case just like every other US hs prodigy who came before.

Indoor 2023:
UCLA: 1:48.31/3:54.93
NAU: 1:49.55/3:58.67
UCLA wins both 😀
Outdoor 2023:
UCLA: 1:49.67/3:41.07
NAU: 1:54.16/3:47.26
UCLA wins both 😀
I’ll let you know when NAU starts to beat UCLA in both events
Ucla trains for middle distance races 800-1500 NAU trains for races above these distances 3000-10000 plus xc. IF NAU trained for 800-1500 their times would drastically drop period. NAU focuses on distances that they will be highly successful at Nationals and beyond. When Ucla starts scoring points at the nationals in their chosen Strong events let me know, then look at the points and success NAU has indoors at 3000-5000 outdoors at 5000-10000 and then xc let me know. stop being brainwashed by one person and start looking at the big picture.

That’s the entire point. NAU is the number one school at 3000m+
