Gotta agree with Louisiana. Obviously the four lowest states will be Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Alabama. Just ranking in terms of education, poverty levels, etc. But at least the other 3 states have some redeeming natural beauty. Arkansas has the Ozark / Ouachita national forest, hot springs. Alabama's got some of the Appalachians to the north. Even Mississippi has the Natchez trace parkway. What does Louisiana have? Overflooded Swamps?

Lol...You've never been to Louisiana in your life...
I realize most people don't consider Oklahoma the South, but it is worse than any of these states, even Arkansas. Basically, take a bunch of rednecks from Arkansas, move them west, pump them up on Evangelical juice, lay the whole place flat as a pancake, throw in constant dust and wind, a few tornadoes, and you'll have the worst place to live in North or South America - Oklahoma.
Maryland is the wokest southern state, and Delaware was the last state to end slavery.
I suppose you didn't know they were southern states. And they're right there in the thick of the east coast urban hell. I guess you probably like that stuff though.
over 60% of the entire black population of the US still reside in the southern states, the other 40% is spread over a few large cities in the north and a few out west.
so any criticism of "the south" is somewhat racist.
I’ve traveled extensively and the consistently nicest people I’ve met live in the Deep South. They’re friendly and unpretentious; unlike those from the NE or west coast. Unlike numerous posters on this thread, they don’t think they’re better than others or look down on others with derision. Go ahead and make your derogatory remarks about the south though if it makes you feel better about yourself.
Florida without a doubt because they have this delusion that they are somehow better than the other backwoods southern states. Any state that can elect a culture war governor like them is pretty worthless. At least the increased frequency and intensity of hurricanes is making for fun watching
