I thought Hocker looked astonishingly easy in his 7:51. That to me was a very good sign. Much of the way he looked like he was running 10k pace until he picked it up near the end.
Why the hell would anyone be anxious, nervous and worried about some random runner's performance unless they have no life and are just living vicariously through others? It's not normal to be this invested in a stranger's performance. Hell, I wouldn't even write this way about my own kid, unless I wanted him to know his dad is a fkn wanker"
It is the same reason we care about the outcome of the World Cup or the Superbowl. We are sports fans and if the players can't take the pitch, play in the playoffs, or race as we expected, it impacts the outcome of the sport.
I would also be disappointed if I was going to see Hamilton and the real cast all caught Covid. That makes sense, right? I don't want to watch understudies on stage. I want the "pros." When I go to a Golden State game, I want to see Steph Curry, not some back-up player. Do you love sports and theater? Then you know how that feels.
Hocker is an amazing runner and I want to see him race well. Plateauing (if that is what happens) would suck. I like sports competitions to include the best of the best.

this is the problem with young posters- the seasoned runner understands that it's never a time to worry. He'll be ready when he needs to be
Never? Should Van Niekerk worry? Should Rupp worry? Should Raevyn Rogers start to worry? What about Brazier?
Most people lose their motivation when they plateau or get injured. And the ability to keep improving is one of the biggest intrinsic motivators among runners; its loss can really harm someone's racing ability. That is a reason to "worry" for a runner, I think.
As a fan of the sport who likes all these athletes, I hope they can PR again this year.

I think it's fair to have some concerns about the trajectory of Hocker's career since the end of last year's indoor season. My biggest worry is that he is training with this Mickey Mouse OTC reboot and not with serious professionals. Teare wisely made the move to BTC; Hocker appears content to train with the likes of Aidan Tooker and Matt Wisner. I doubt whether that's the sort of training set-up that will lead him to a global medal in the 1500m—which has to be the expectation for his career after placing 6th in the Olympics as a 20yo.

Almost. The LRC douchebags are living vicariously against others.
I get the impression that some people want being a track fan to be like being the fan(atic) of an NFL or MLB team.
I know so many people who are devastated every time the Buffalo Bills don't make it to the Super Bowl or, God forbid, the Yankees lose one of their 162 games.
They put their lives on hold every time they play.

I’d be more concerned if Ben Thomas was a guy who assigned everyone the same workout or wasn’t too technical. But from afar it seems like he’d be tailoring stuff just for Hocker and it’d be pretty technical (e.g. lots of threshold, pace-specific stuff and so on). In that sort of setup, the training partners don’t matter a whole lot as Hocker is doing a lot more than his teammates. Even when Teare was with him, they weren’t always doing the same workouts.

I'm still of the belief that Hocker should join Very Nice TC when his contract runs out
It seems like an odd time to start to worry, since his season effectively hasn’t even started yet. At the very least save it until after Millrose.
The season doesn't begin until after May 1.
Act like you've been there before.
According to who?
Depends on what season your looking at, and there's nothing wrong with looking at indoor/cross country results as indicators of fitness. A 7:51 3000m for the win shows he's fit and training well. I'm sure Cole has a solid training plan and is focused on the summer season, so no reason for concern, but the past year has been somewhat different for him due to injury and losing a solid training partner in Cooper Teare. No crime in inquiring.

Chisel this post in stone.
They'd rather be the hunter than the hunted.
Of course last year Hocker wasn’t ready when he needed to be. Hocker would rather have been the hunted than on the sidelines. But worrying about it seems ridiculous. If Hocker is healthy he is in the mix for sure.
