It’s a total power move that Fisher is blowing off Millrose to head to Europe. The Millrose 3000 is a super strong US based field, but it seems that it’s not strong enough for our best distance runner. Personally, I love that Fisher is flexing like this.
Or he doesn’t want to try to win the race from 1600-3000 with Teare and Grijalva waiting to attempt to outkick him? Granted, it’s indoors so leading isn’t so bad but Lieven is a much better spot for him to run fast without a target on his back.
Well, I cannot find the Lieven start list, and it sounds like it’s misinformation that Jakob is in the 3000, or racing at all, but it seems strange to suggest that Fisher is dodging Teare and Grijalva to race far better competition. You really think he’s worried that he has a target in his back that his teammate Teare or Grijalva might hit? No, I think he doesn’t want to bother with a Millrose race that’s like a JV race for him.

You guys are misunderstanding. It's not that he can't beat Teare or Grijalva. Grijalva did beat him at Worlds by the way, so this noting that it's JV or whatever is silly.
It's that in Lieven there will be more athletes who want to run sub-7:30 and are willing to do some of the work after the pacemaker drops. At Millrose, the field is all kickers (Luis, Teare, Geordie) and guys who won't be focused on running a fast time. If Grant ran it, he would be the one that would basically have to put the screws on the field. That's not an enviable spot when he's likely looking to just run a fast 3,000 and test himself in a 7:28 type race.

Yes, mine was slightly mean spirited hyperbole. I’m a big fan of Luis, btw, but you know he and Teare and Beamish are not in the same class as Grant regardless of what transpired after “the stumble” in Eugene. Ok, but I get your point. It will be an easier ride to the AR in Lieven than at Millrose. However, the Millrose race is not going to be sit and kick. Isn’t Klecker running? I think they are shooting for 7:30 or faster. Anyway, I’m sure Grant is going to Lieven to win, not just ride along to the record, and I applaud him for choosing the stiffest possible competition for his opener.

We'll see on the pacing. Millrose for the 3,000 often ends up being slow. Sure Joe could push it but 3,000 is a little bit on the low end for him I'd think? He also went to the well and hard for that 5,000 PB. If Klecker isn't grinding out 30 pts after the rabbit drops I don't see anyone else doing it.
Think you're underestimating Luis a fair bit, though. Yes his PB is "only" 13:02, but that is still a distance from Teare (13:06.73) and Beamish (13:12.53), without even considering he was on pace to run 12:50 in Brussels deep into the race and basically just survived the last 1600 or so.

Ok, looking forward to what transpires regardless. It would be great if Luis is truly a 12:50 guy. His back story is to be admired, he seems like a lovely person, and a fan favorite for good reason. I don’t buy it yet, but not because I’m rooting against him. Fisher, on the other hand is likely a true low 12:40s runner truly ready to be in contention for a global medal every time one is being contested these next few years.
Your thought is most likely not a thought at all for Grant.
I suspect it is a thought for Jerry who is the one orchestrating the whole thing.
Disagree.
And, Jerry is not “orchestrating the whole thing”
You are an astute poster. Nevertheless, stating feelings of a situation between, coach and athlete, is not productive.
Racing, planning where to race and why, is a collaborative process between any ciach and athlete. Jerry gets at times what he may deserve from posters but never think he doesn’t discuss racing schedule with his athletes. Heck, race schedule is something he must discuss at length with his athletes because his training/racing process aligns with the biggest meets of the year.
It is silly to think a person like Grant doesn’t have a say in what races he does based on the opportunities he has to race where and when.
BTC gets a bad rap on racing from posters. Jerry’s job is to have them ready for the big ones. Sometimes a coach has to rein-in an athlete. Several BTC athletes are racing over the next few weeks. They just started a little later then others which probably has to do with their altitude training camp schedule- nothing more, nothing less.

I think Jerry is collaborative and Grant does consult with him. However, if you don’t think the opportunity to run faster (and potentially a lifetime best), in a deeper competition, while not having to drive the pace wasn’t part of the calculus for Lieven I don’t know what to tell you. I’d say any coach not considering those factors would be doing a bad job. I don’t think Millrose is a great spot for Grant - being expected to win, likely having to lead a lot to be in position to, and unlikely to run as fast as he could in a better setup.
