What's the risk here, it's in freaking Montana, there's a 1 in a billion chance it hits a cow in the butt. And I hope we have a plan to nuke the rest of these out of the sky before they reach American airspace
What a solid intellectual analysis! Such a shame you're not in the top brass making decisions in the Pentagon with this sort of carefully calculated risk analysis.
Does China just have unlimited access to send spy balloons now because we aren't technologically capable of doing anything about it? Sorry but how can you see this as anything but a failure in preparedness at best
You are dumb. They can shoot it down. They are electing not to b/c it carries far greater risk than reward.

First: it isn't "IN" Montana. It is 60,000 feet in the air.
Second: A destruction of the massive object at 60,000 feet does not mean the debris simply falls downward linearly. The debris will cover thousands and thousands of square miles damaging lives and property. Are you going to be cool with debris from 60000 slamming in to your kids school, your house, your head?

For the 3rd time: we ARE capable of shooting it down.

Let me clarify for you: Does China have free reign to send spy balloons now because the current administration WON'T do anyting about it?
Trump would have shot that thing down the minute it crossed into US airspace. Biden is too cowardly. He's afraid of the Chinese. Trump would have told the Chinese to go coco chow themselves.
Biden lets the big balloon in the sky threaten the lives of Americans. That balloon would be tiny bits of plastic lying on the ground if Trump was still president.
I doubt they are gathering much information with this balloon, when their satellites can do that much more effectively.
China has been playing games lately, by sailing ships and flying planes near Taiwan. This is probably another deliberate provocation like that.
It was probably first proposed as "let's fly some aircraft near continental US airspace." Then was downgraded several times to "let's float a balloon over Montana."

Third: YOU DO KNOW PEOPLE LIVE IN MONTANA, RIGHT?
The Pentagon has confirmed it is a spy satellite. Tell me again that Biden is not compromised? The Manchurian Candidate has officially become reality. Better brush up on your Cantonese and start growing some food. Everyone's going to need it.
"Why would China fly a spy satellite over America to gain intelligence, they know they have mine and Huntie's cell phone numbers and we're an open book of information, not a joke." --- Joe Biden
Can't build our own counter airship to take it down in a controlled manner?
Can't shoot it down when it's 30 miles into the Pacific ocean BEFORE it gets into the US?
It's amazing how you think you're an expert on EVERY topic. Maybe the military has a better idea of how to approach this situation than some red-pilled Gen Z doofus still mooching off his parents?
1. what exactly would they hope to find using a spy balloon that they can't by just sending a tourist here and driving around?
2. How is this any different than the relentless cyber attacks they do?
3. Isn't this EXACTLY the kind of thing the SPACE FORCE was created for? Those guys should be walking around with massive b*ners right now.
Probably just testing our response to something like this rather than actually spying. I guess we're just not going to do anything except wag our finger.
