The future of American sprinting has just arrived. The sheriff has arrived and he is taking scalps. Matt Boling is THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 19.32 is pretty much gone.
Boling hasn't even cracked 19.90 outdoors... We already have Knighton and Lyles, who are clear world-beaters. I don't understand the hype around Boling. Well, actually, if I'm being honest, we all know why there's so much hype around him.
Holloway would absolutely destroy him (I'm talking 500+ point minimum)
Holloway jumped 26'6". Boling destroys him in everything but the hurdles. Could Holloway even break 50 seconds for the 400?
First time breaking my nose from a facepalm. Grant has run an infinite number of 44 second 400m splits (I believe he has a 43.8 in there). He has long jumped 27' 4, high jumped 7' 1 as a sophomore in high school and is the fastest (WR indoors/#2 AT outdoors) hurdler ever. He also won the NCAA 60m and 60H at the same meet (6.50 in the 60 to Boling's 6.56). I don't think Boling has a single edge in reality against Holloway, they are comparable ish sprinters and both struggle with consistency in the long jump but at the end of the day Grant is just an entirely different athlete who would absolutely trounce him through the first six events (100 and 400 up in the air, potentially, but no shot Boling could match Holloway's first six). I also saw Grant run a 1k during a pentathlon in high school and I would imagine he could gut out a sub 4:45ish 1500 with minimal training
Boling's 2 biggest problems are being an American and being born when he was. The U.S. has over half of the top-10 200m sprinters in the world and none of them are retiring soon. The situation in the 100m and 400m is not much better. With that said, I think Boling is very versatile, he could be top-4 or 5 in all three sprints which could get him on a global championship team in the relay pool. Also, if he jumps no further than he already has, he could make a team in the long jump. ***Quote Me*** Mathew Boling will make the 2024 Olympic team. In the U.S., when it comes to making teams as a sprinter, being versitle is better than being super at any one event primarily because there is now an extra relay, we compete in all of them and carry 5 athletes for each relay.
Is carrying 5 each relay a new rule? We used to carry 6. Bolling isn’t over trained, but his college competition schedule means he gets somewhat tired out by summer. He will adjust with time.

He is overtrained and over raced. I watched him at USAs last year and he was cooked by then. He needs to make a choice, 100/200 or 200/400 type, forget about the long jump and carry less upper body muscle. He flashes a nice fluidity from time to time but he is also very stiff. Who signs him? Can he handle the negativity that will come, saying that he only signed because he’s white? A lot to navigate.
