I ran for nearly 15 years until 2021 when I bought a bike and started riding 150-200km a week. I started running a couple times a week on top of cycling and PR'd in all distances. Cycling is hard. My area is hilly and when I come back from a 2 hour ride I am way more spent than any 20+km run. It's a weird mix of strength and endurance (if you're actually trying and not just toodling about on the bike path). I know cyclists in my area who never run except for the odd half marathon or 10km. One guy threw down a 1:16 HM on cycling only fitness and he is hardly tour de france level. He is a good but average Crit racer in my area. Only a fool would think a cyclist who rides regularly would have no running fitness...
