Ribich is the one runner who I absolutely could not understand how he got a professional contract. There's heaps of college kids running his times who will never compete again after graduating. Even from a social media/influence point of view, he was also so awkward on their podcast and made it hard to listen to. Gotta respect the grift if nothing else.
Ribich didn't even make the USATF 1500m final. He placed 8th out of 12 in his section.
He should get a real job.
If Shalane can be the coach of the Ducks, David can be a pro runner.
On the one hand, Spesh did suck while with the Beasts, and his channel was probably annoying them. On the other hand, it's a low blow to make fun of him, especially on a public podcast. What goes around comes around!
What episode was this?
Tbh I don't actually listen to their podcast and am basing this off of hearsay. I don't care enough to check, but I imagine this is the episode as it includes Mackey and was shortly after Spesh left the Beasts.
Listen to this episode from Sit & Kick on Spotify. There is no coach on the professional circuit right now with more unwarranted #banter against them. This is the exact reason why the stoic young coach is one of the best coac...

That's an exaggeration. For the outdoor 1500m in 2022, Ribich's 3:35.51 would've been 2nd best among collegians, according to 2022_NCAA_Division_I_Outdoor_Qualifying_List (not allowed to post link)

First time listening to their podcast. Probably will be the last. Just not very good and interesting. Josh is better than David. David sounds a little arrogant and boring. Just my opinion.
Wow just listened to the part of the Ribich and Kerr podcast where Ribich disrespected Spencer and pretended he didn’t even know his name and just called him an acquaintance. Personally that seems pretty disrespectful as they were teammates, both out of their league chasing a dram. He also made a comment on how people love or hate Spencer and how people would make fun of them at meets for him being on their team. I hate to break it to David but that’s how people view how. I do not think many people actually respect David as a “legit pro” with a 1:49 and 3:35 PR. Overall comes across as an arrogant guy, ironically enough, Spencer is now making more in the sport than that guy
This man is trying his best lets put some respect on his name. Being a successful professional athlete is not easy by any means. Clearly the beasts weren't working out for him. He had a good run with them but sometimes people need to move on to realize their true potential... not everyone is a good fit for you. Just like relationships..

Normally I would but he memed on spencer then got kicked to the curb for also going backwards. It’s not that hard to be a decent human being with empathy

Yeah, geez, even Kerr was like, how TF did you forget Spencer Brown's name

Hahahah wow I just listened to it, everything he said about Spencer was so petty and backhanded. Something else going on here? Josh Kerr, clearly being the mature one was like "wtf dude"
Who knows if there's some sort of spat between them that even Josh Kerr doesn't know about, but unfortunately without any other knowledge he came across rather petty and immature here for no reason.
if you watch the TAS videos from when he was on Brooks, he had a very banterous relationship with Ribich. I just listened and didn't take anything Dave said in either episode (about Spencer) to be serious, just an attempt at dry sarcasm
Basically that they didn't like that Spencer got what they felt was an underserved initial contract from Brooks based on his media presence rather than for his running alone. It definitely was critical but IMO fair; Spencer was trash that year- totally out of his depth. However, it was clear that they were so brutal (but fair) because they didn't really like him (or, actually more likely, didn't really think of him at all). If they were bros he wouldn't have gotten that kind of heat no doubt.
Brooks is not a charity, their goal is to move product. I bet Spencer and his 70K youtube subscribers brought more attention and $ to Brooks than Ribich did, even with comparatively worse results.
