My dad from North Wales told me once that there was no rail link between the north and south of the country until the 1960's or something, so the culture difference was massive. I visited his home town a few years ago (Porthmadog), and virtually nobody spoke any English. I've travelled all over Europe and I'd say that only the Ukraine felt more 'foreign'.
England womens football winning the Euros was the biggest sporting "moment" of the year in the UK. Won, at Wembley, 90,000 people in attendance. Beth Mead also has a personality. 23 million people watched it live also (out of a UK population of 70 million).
So this was an absolute no brainer, the favourite won. End of.
Oh, and she has a personality.
I can see that, there is no doubt women's football is big in the UK now, thanks a lot to the BBC pushing it so much.
The curling guy coming 3rd ahead of Wightman and Ronnie is the joke. The public vote aspect is very suspect. It doesn't seem possible that the curling guy could get more votes than Ronnie O'Sullivan. Ronnie should have got more votes than the entire number of people who have even heard of the curling guy.
By "the curling guy" do you mean Eve Muirhead? She's not a guy. She's a very popular and successful winter Olympian though, who has been famous for many years and brought home gold last time. Curling is a big sport in northern European countries, and she's Scottish. Scottish people often make a big effort to vote for their favourites in contests like this. So, no, its a very unsurprising result that she should come third. She's also very pretty, which won't have done her support any harm.
Pretty sure all welsh (north or otherwise) can speak english. I holidayed abersoch pwhlelli area 4 or 5 times a year, i never had any problems communicating with people. They have a strong accent, thats all.

I am near Porthmadog every June as a race I take part in goes near there. If you have a good ear you will notice that just like native speakers of various European countries who live in the UK, Welsh speakers speaking to each other will often alternate between Welsh and English depending on what is more convenient. I think this is the origin of the myth that Welsh speakers switch to Welsh when a person with a chip on their shoulder that any language other than English is spoken at any time by anyone turns up.
Rubbish. BBC sportsperson of the year should definitely have been Antonio Brown.
Over Deshaun Watson?
Deshaun is a good runner up. But did you see the pic of AB in the pool? And the fact that he lived with Tom Brady and his wife, not once, but twice, means AB gets my nod.

Every second of the UK men's national team stepping on the pitch in the World Cup was a far bigger moment. Unless you meant the moment physically took place in the UK, not just UK sports.
