Be serious. Ovett could run cross country with the best in the world like Tracy and Rose. I like Josh but he’d be lucky to break 67 minutes on that Dartford course
30-90 seconds for elevation drop, another minute for supershoes (even the Brooks ones). Probably worth around 66 minutes on a record eligible course with old school racing flats. Still pretty impressive though.
Looks like Kerr is adopting the same strategy that worked for Jake Wightman this year: do long races outside of your range and get a little wrecked in the winter in order to have the strength to hang with a blazing fast pace in the summer.
Not everyone can train like Jakob with the super high volume and low intensity. But the 1500m scene has changed in that the 1500m/5k runners like Jakob, McSweyn, etc. are not gonna let championship races get tactical. 800m/1500m guys like Wightman and true 1500m guys like Kerr/Hoare have to do something about it.
I like this move because I think it's a good idea training-wise, and if it works out, the prospect of the 1500m being up for anyone to take is exciting. Also I will always be a fan of athletes racing often and not hiding at altitude most of the year.
