I would think that most 13:00 -13:10 guys run similar workouts to 2x5x1600 at 4:50 (tempo) and 4:35 (LT). It's a lot of volume. Great workout. But it doesn't suggest he's going to set an AR any time soon.
I showed it to my neighbor and he said it's pretty good. He himself runs similar workouts once a month. He's 5K PR is 13:28 but it was some 5 years ago in a local road race.

I only wonder why he chose not to record the supposed 3' break, but stopped his watch instead? So his avg pace looks good, I mean, better on Strava? I would think, if he's sharing a workout, then he would want to show how it's actually done. Anyway, his Strava, his choices.
This seems like a very impressive session for someone who's primarily a 1500 guy. And wasn't he dealing with a stress fracture until pretty recently? Jerry doing his thing already.
Running a workout like this at the end of November after a stress fracture earlier in the year is why Cooper Teare is going to either drop an enormous amount of time or get injured. Unfortunately, I bet on the latter. To my knowledge, his previous coach didn't have him running hero workouts like this.

Kipchoge can run sub T 4:37 per mile for a thon. I don’t understand how this is a “hero workout” for a guy that’s run a 3:50 mile. It’s threshold effort for a guy of his caliber. And he only ran that pace at the end. In contrast, this is an excellent strength workout to prevent burnout/injury.
These paces are pretty much in line with the training paces VDot predicts for a 13:06 guy. 5 miles at marathon pace and 5 miles at half marathon pace. Not saying he could run 4:50 pace for 26 miles or 4:37 pace for 13 miles right now, but he should be able to do 5 at each pretty comfortably. Hardly a hero workout, though I doubt he was doing anything like this in college. We’ll see how much longer Jerry lets him post their training on Strava.

I wouldn't call this a hero workout. He's averaged 4:12 for a 5k, 4:37 is not taking a lot out of him.
But you are correct that he is going to be 100x stronger aerobically this year.

I don’t know why you’re getting so many down votes. I agree it is a very good workout, it indicates Cooper is developing great aerobic fitness. That all said I would kinda expect this from an elite runner. Especially considering elite marathoners hold that same pace for 26 miles, without any rest.

He is getting downvoted for not reading OPs post. OP clearly stated it was 2 x 5 mile with 3 minutes recovery, and this genius is acting like hes the first person to discover this wasn’t a continuous 10mi tempo
If it were so easy, why would it have three pages of comments? It's eight months out from peaking and he's coming back from a stress fracture. Five miles at better than MP followed by five miles at better than 1/2 MP on three minutes rest is not easy. The first year of Jerry workouts killed Grant Fisher's legs, and he was healthy. The second and third year of those workouts should get Teare some remarkable times but Jerry needs to learn to have these guys ease into the program, not throw them right to the sharks.
Fisher wasn't a 3:50/13:06 guy coming into the program. I, along with a lot of other people, thought he'd be under 13 this year after that close on his 13:06. Not to say it's easy, but I don't think we'll need to wait 2 years to see some big results.
