Eric Boettcher - Stevens Point 2022 grad - scored for varsity as a junior and senior. Did track freshman year (when he was JV for xc) / no spring 2020 sport sophomore year (Covid). Lacrosse junior and senior year.
Joe Schwartz - Middleton- lacrosse in the spring. Top 3 in XC both junior and senior year
1962 Class A state cross country champion, Bruce Fraser, Milwaukee Washington, Class of 1963.
He ran only a handful of indoor track meets because I believe he was a standout tennis player and may have even been a state titleist in that too.
He ran for the University of Wisconsin.
Ryan Kleimenhagen, Class of 2000 from Oak Creek. He was an unexpected high placer at the state cross country meet his senior year. He was also a tennis player and did not run track because he too.plaues tennis. Kleimenhagen went on to compete at a high.level for UW-Platteville and broke 4 minutes in the mile.
never did track
played lacrosse instead

Who are the best HS XC runners in the country who never did track in HS?
What about now?
What about in the past?
How about the opposite? Ran track but not cross country.
Back in the early 70’s Mills HS (CCS) had a 9:19 2-miler on the track? But he didn’t run cross country. If he did he was so bad that he didn’t make any of the results.
When I was in HS, the same people did not do both Track and XC. There was 1 guy who did. 1 that I knew of in a school of 3000. Back when it was unusual to do both, a thread could have been titled,
"Anyone know of any good XC runners that also ran Track?"
Not saying that it was better or worse then than now; just saying I saw the thread title and found it amusing since this would not have been a topic at all back at my school.
By the way, and this one IS actually on topic: Lukas Verzbikas ran for his school's XC but not Track team. He ran races unattached on the track, indoors and out, but never 'joined the team' or 'went out for track' (that's how it used to be said). Anyway, maybe someone had mentioned him already.....
