I can understand the 'rub' with the Boston Marathon community (particularly the BM wannabe community). Do the math. There are just so many slots available and they are time sensitive. With a good many runners either making the cut or not making the cut by only seconds, biological men qualifying at the women's pace (current protocol) has the potential of bumping out both men and women.
What's wrong with qualifying with your birth gender timing but running as your chosen identity? You can update that gender info after the qualifying parameters have been established. Then these confused folks can run the Boston Marathon and make their statement.
