Anyone know, was she racing full out? More in the tank? How did Chelangat look?
The finish is about 16:30 - not much to be seen ahead of that. Chelangat to me was not just easing it in. I thought Tuohy looked more relaxed than her at the finish.
Like the rest of us I did not see the full race but Tuohy looked like she eased her foot off the gas approaching the line. There was no second kick or drive to the line. Chelangat looked like she was racing to win like she did last year. She generally races to win. She was not tempoing with her teammate, who she gapped at the line. KT just has that 1500 speed that her competitors do not have. She blew it open in the last K.
Not discounting the home course advantage that OK State has, but assuming everyone is healthy I would say her main competition will be Valby. I am sure the UF coaches are in the laboratory with her as we speak, and I have this image of Ivan Drago's training montage in my head.

Like she was standing still when Tuohy was done messing around and decided to hit the 1500m burners!!!! The only way Tuohy does not win in November is if she is injured, sick, or falls down. Crickets from Cook fans now! Being at the race I can tell you one thing….Tuohy had a lot more…..scary!!!!!
Does anyone remember when Joe Franklin was at Butler and said the reason he got basically an entirely international team was because "it was part of the mission of the university"?
Looking at his UNM bio, it says he has coached 36 All-Americans in individual distance events. Pretty good. Less impressive is that only seven of them went to high school in the US.

That is indeed scary, Katelyn Tuohy's 5k time on grass is faster than majority of the d1 runners 5000m time on track. 15:50 5k this early in the season is just so bizarre, shows you what shape she's in and the talent she has.

KT’s talent and accomplishments are well documented, but as others have pointed out, it’s waaay too early in the season for dramatic pronouncements about anything. Lots happens from week to week. Isabel Van Camp just threw down a 15:58 win at Chili Pepper.

15:58 sounds like a fast time and is a lot faster than Krissy Gear won in last year.....but 3rd place was Irene Rono 20 seconds back whose best 5,000 is 16:02...so it's hard to tell just how solid of a time that is. Thorvaldson was about 40 seconds back of Van Camp, about the same gap at OSU when she was almost 1 minute back of Cook. Maybe Rono has gotten a lot faster but no real way to know yet. Back in 2019 when AR had a great team they had 2 15:50 or so. My guess is Van Camp is good but right now ~20 seconds or so back of Tuohy.

katelyn's talent and accomplishment is well documented indeed, so i guess you know what happened when she was a sophomore in high school
she started the season just like this, won and broke a course record in her first race too.. katelyn is a sophomore this season

You guys missed the point; we’re 6 weeks from Nationals. Lots is gonna happen between now and then. Should KT be the favorite? Sure, but others will rise and some will fall. Who woulda predicted a sub-16 on grass from Van Camp? There will be others who will rise in the weeks ahead.

oh I agree and also people were saying NC St could place 5 in the top 10 or 15? They had 3 in top 10 today and there are a good amount of top runners who were not there. The "top 10" is going to be crowded and some "top 10" runners will be 15th or so.

If one of the NC State women had run it we’d have to call an EMS team for you guys.
