This is the dumbest debate. It would not be pandering to Jakob to allow a 1500/5000/10000 (if he earns it by ranking), just like it isn't pandering when WA allows the 100m/200m double. The sprint double is universally protected because every year there are many 100m runners who are also highly ranked in the 200.
This should be a World Athletics principle: If ANYONE is world-ranked in the top 10 in any two (or three) events, the schedule should be adjusted if possible to facilitate it. Period. I don't care if someone is top-10 in the both marathon and shot-put. It makes a better sport. Every era has an unusual athlete with uncommon skill sets (Jackie Joyner, Michael Johnson, etc.), and they should be rewarded for versatility at the highest level. This takes any favoritism out of the equation.
