Because they can.Why does a billionaire have ten cars when he can drive only one at a time, because he can. They have speed to burn and you don't.
I'd rather actually put up the fastest time possible. I'd rather run a 9.81 PR than run 9.91 PR.
Nah. Showboating and setting some U-20 record in the process makes much more sense. It builds anticipation for his future races. Bolt showed you the blueprint in 08. C'mon now.
Taboo can run sub-9.9 whenever he gets a decent start, clearly.
I'll never understand why sprinters can't wait 2 more seconds to show off. I'd rather set a record that was harder for someone to break. You can point your finger at someone just the same after the race is over.
B/c they can set the record as far out as possible today w/ very few people watching, or they can do something silly, generate controversy, media coverage and interest, and set it tomorrow w/ more people watching and a few endorsements to top it off.
Of course 9.91 while not finishing hard shows promise. But it does not automatically mean the time will be improved upon. In fact history has shown that a significant amount of these standout performances are one-offs. This is what really makes Bolt and SAFP so special. They followed great performances with greater performances. I hope Knighton can challenge Bolts 19.19 one day, but if im a betting man im going with history and say he never runs faster than 19.49 again.
