Westphalian notions of nationhood are gradually declining. In a couple hundred years, the flag-waving and arbitrarily delineated borders we currently think of as nations will erode through international cooperation and globalized commerce. At that point, what is now the US will remain a locus of global leadership due to the endurance of its currently privileged position and its immense strategic assets and natural resources. Long story short, all nations are declining, but the rock that USA occupies will endure. (Be that as it may, global warming is going to be great for Russia and Canada down the line. Do your great-grandchildren a favor and buy up as much of the NWT as you can.)
If anything we are going to see the complete opposite of that. Nations will become very ethnocentric and looks to shrink back to their historic and "natural" borders.
