Tell me what Cheptegei ran at world half championships the year he set the 10k world record. And didn’t Jakob Ing run there as well very poorly? There is a bit of specificity between track racing for 13-27 minutes and running on the road for an hour. I think he would give 60 flat a good scare, but no way he’s crushing the American record right now unless he actually does long road training

A runner needs maximum strength to run 26:33 and there’s no way to add more strength to run a HM. Grant averaged 4:16 per mile during his AR run and he could easily run 4:34 per mile for 60 flat. What is long road training anyway?
The ARs are soft but they're the ARs because that's the fastest an American has run. To the guy suggesting that Grant Fisher might run under 2'03, you're right, he might, but I would say it's highly unlikely. Farah was the more talented athlete and ran 2'05.
But no chance Jerry lets him race one in his prime. So many good post season opportunities in Europe from September-November. Would like to see him take a crack at one of those while he's back in some base work.
I'm certainly not saying he could, but since he's run as fast as Kiplimo at 10000m, how does anybody really know whether he can run 57:31 or not?
Until he runs a half, it's an unknown. It's a safe speculation that he can't run 57:31, but perhaps his ultimate distance is the half and we just don't know that yet. Ryan Hall surprised everyone with his first half, maybe Grant will do the same.
60:00 is almost the American record. While I certainly believe. GF could be in the mix time wise, it isn't a tempo run
Lets be real Ryan Hall ran 59:43 and I could have beat him in most events when we were in prime form. The difference is he had a gas tank and could run the longer stuff such as the half and marathon. The real question is how fast can Jakob run a half?

Jakob can run a Half probably sub 58 like The best in the world can. Grant I'd imagine will run 1:01 to 1:02.
Better question how fast do you think President Biden can run a half? I'd bet 1:05 or faster. You have to agree the man is fit and ageless probably the equivalent of an elite 40 year old.

Jakob could not run sub 58. Only a few guys have ever gone sub 58. We're talking about a 1500-5k guy, who could probably still hold his own in a 10k but wouldn't be the worlds best at 10k, and then yet another jump to half marathon. I believe in his one and only half marathon attempt a couple years ago he did not finish. And his road 10k is upper 27's, there are other true half marathon guys who run 27 flat and under on the roads. He isn't on their level for the roads or 10k. And how in the world do you say Grant would only be 61/62? A recent example to model off of is Conner Mantz who is a roughly 27:30 10,000 runner who ran sub 60:50 ish at the USATF half marathon championships. Grant is easily 30 seconds faster than him, closer to a minute. So I'd say Grant is a lock at 60:15, probably more like 59:30-59:45. People saying he'd be in the 58's are crazy, he is training like a 5k/10k guy and just barely competitive with the top runners there, he isn't going to also be competitive amongst the top runners at half marathon right now. You could argue that the best runners in the world aren't even on the track since they make more runners on the road, Cheptegei is 10,000 world champion and gets his butt handed to him on the roads. Cheptegei only ran low 59 for the half marathon two years ago the same year he ran 26:11 on the track.
True. But it's also about "next weekend", so right after recovery from worlds, without any specific training, in summer weather. Maybe a 1:01 or 1:02 if he can find a flat course and someone to run with.
