I got a place in town (very small town) that shuts down at 1am. They kick the non-locals out, pull the shades, and shout “cash only from this point fellas!”.
I only stay out that late twice a year or so but boy does it make you feel like a superstar. They clean and stuff while you’re drinking and having a good time, but that’s no bother.
Years ago when I was a bar tramp, the bars "closed" at 2:00 a.m. Last call was a 1:45. You weren't shown the door until 2:30 a.m. This was the rules in my small town in Illinois. From what I understand in Chicago the bars had to close for an hour, between 4/5:00 a.m. for cleaning. However, if you were there at 4:00 a.m. you could still stay at the bar, table or booth. You might get asked to move down a bit so they could clean your spot, but you'd never have been shown the door. Different towns, cities and states I guess.
