Sorry. Just count me as one of the American voters who is more concerned with things affecting me on a daily basis. Things like gas prices, food prices, 401k tanking.
I think January 6th was an embarrassment and is something to be concerned with, I just think this is an obvious political stunt. Have hearings, whatever. It just doesn’t make sense to have it broadcast the way it is other than as a political ploy. If you’re too partisan to see that, oh well.
Congress can and is trying to multi task as we all do in our daily lives.
Legislation has been introduced recently to address multiple issues you mentioned and those same people attempting to portray this as an unnecessary stunt shot those efforts down.
BTW - What exactly do you want them to do about gas prices and your 401k? Seems like you can add yourself to the list of people went govt regs and intervention when it fits your immediate needs only.
That’s fine that they can multitask. Still, American voters are going to focus more on the things that affect their daily lives. Jan 6th is in the rear view mirror of most people.
they could affect oil prices by allowing more drilling in the US and reopen the keystone pipeline. Since oil is priced on a futures market, if Biden announced plans to drill more you would see oil prices drop the next day.
NYT agrees that the hearings are a political tool for the dems:
Oil supply is limited by refining right now, not lack of drilling and certainly not the Keystone pipeline. It's amazing what people are spoon fed to believe.
Anyone watch last night? Thoughts? What were some key takeaways?
I watched. I'm a social studies teacher and a political scientist. I remember watching the Watergate Hearings.
Last night I was getting sick to my stomach:
1. That people in our government tried to do this to us.
2. That people supported that criminal before this happened.
3. That people still support him.
4. That there are enough mis and uninformed Americans to hand power back to Republicans and give away our freedoms and our Democracy.
Let's look at Trump support this way:
An old man with orange skin sits next to you on a park bench and says- there were airports during the American Revolution and you can cure a virus by injecting bleach.
When he leaves you say- THAT man should be president.
Oil supply is limited by refining right now, not lack of drilling and certainly not the Keystone pipeline. It's amazing what people are spoon fed to believe.
I’ve also been told there are tons of land permits being wasted and that’s why oil is going up. They typically leave out the bit that having a land permit only gives you access to the land. You have to request a further permit to drill, which this administration is intentionally neglecting. So, yes there are things they could do to improve the current situation. They won’t because they’re sold on the climate crisis religion. They’re ideologues.
Black Lives Matter got tear gassed for blocking the street. Police beat back anyone near the cordon and would have shot anyone breaching the perimeter of the Capitol building.
The question is why the Proud Boys and the Oathkeepers were not treated the same? Where was the tear gas? Where were the armored police?
Maybe if Pelosi and the mayor had not rebuffed Trumps offer of the National Guard (beforehand) there would have much stronger defense and some of the measures you mention...
It shouldn't have needed the National Guard. Just use tear gas and throw stun grenades at people like they do to every liberal protestor, and they would have never have got near the building.
Joe Biden’s approval rating is 35% in the Quinnipiac poll. That’s the takeaway. No other reason to have these in prime time on major networks other than an attempt to help a floundering president and his party ahead of midterms.
don’t talk about “preserving democracy” blah blah blah.
Joe Biden's approval rating is low because no Republican will approve of him even if he lowers unemployment, creates a surplus of jobs and raises wages and restores NATO and the faith the rest of the world has in us. (WAIT!!!!!)
It's also low because people think he isn't doing enough BUT his BBB plan failed because EVERY Republican voted against it despite 17 Nobel PRize Economists saying it would work.
AND (I love this part the best) Conservatives are mad that the President isn't intervening in the economy enough! Head slap emoji OH!!! and when he DOES try to do something about inflation Republicans vote against it!!!!!
You were not there obviously - but did you see this?
These are democrats rioting in front of the white house. Where 5 secret service agents were injured. What? You didn't see the congressional hearings on this?
Donald Trump rushed to ‘terror attack’ bunker as violent George Floyd riots rage near White House

Finish the thought. What's your theory as to where the police were and why they didn't use tear gas? Because they supported the Proud Boys, Oathkeepers and other Capitol rioters?

He’s not popular period. As much as people talked about trump being the most unpopular president, Biden seems intent on beating him at that.
as a conservative, I’m disappointed because of regulations put in place by this administration that are affecting the economy. I don’t want the government to do more, I want them to do less.

You're a flaming moron as that's not why he has a low approval rating. What stupid show did you watch that on, CNN or MSNBC? Please leave Michigan as soon as possible, we can't stand lying liberals.

The Ds can find any number of Economists or Intelligence officials to say whatever they want......God help us if they had pumped another few $T into this economy.

Crude oil supply is tight right no - just look at total US inventory and the little existing spare capacity in the world. But yes, refining capacity is also tight, and refining costs are high due to NG prices among other factors.
"The autopsy revealed that Sicknick, 42, said the strokes at the base of the brain stem were caused by a blood clot, Chief Medical Examiner Francisco Diaz said. The formal finding was that the death was caused by "acute brainstem and cerebellar infarcts due to acute basilar artery thrombosis" and that the manner of death was "natural." Diaz told The Washington Post that the autopsy found no evidence that Sicknick experienced an allergic reaction to chemical irritants. He also said there was no evidence of either external or internal injuries."
Maybe he could have gotten emergency medical treatment for that if he wasn't busy wrestling with deluded violent insurrectionists for several hours that afternoon?
I'm sorry he died. But is there evidence he knew he needed medical attention when he was at the Capitol?
You're using an "appeal to extremes" here. This wasn't a seize-the-Bastille-style insurrection and I don't think anybody is saying that it was.
You're right. It pales in comparison to the Xtreme left-wingers who took over cities for months...with guns!
You're entirely misinterpreting and misrepresenting my statement. I'm not saying the protesters were extreme (they were, but that's not what I'm claiming)... I'm saying that wazzu is attempting to discredit the argument that Jan 6 was a coup attempt by taking it to the logical extreme, ie implying that "overthrowing" the government is only possible through armed revolution and that the hearings are operating using that definition of "insurrection," which is blatantly false
Also, the "Xtreme left-wingers" and the George Floyd protests aren't what's being investigated here. That's entirely irrelevant to this discussion. What's being investigated is the role of our previous Pres in attempting to disrupt a fair election and the transfer of power that followed it

I don't think there's overt support for those groups but the police definitely lean right and see Black Lives Matter as more of a threat than the Far-Right.
So much discussion here about oil and the economy today here in the thread. Sorry I missed the hearing last night. I would have tuned in . I thought it was going to be about how the orangeman let us down. Orangeman sold his soul to the devil and now we are paying for the hell he created. I only wish that these rioters would have gotten to mike pence . Those lunatics failed the orangeman and should admit defeat. No presidential pardon for you clowns.
