Is he scheduled to race Cade Flatt anytime soon? Can we get them in a race and get a Sowinski to rabbit for 500?
How about letsrun.com set up a last-chance high-school meet this summer, with an 800m and mile race in it? Raise money to pay for liberal travel stipends for the top athletes and their coaches to be in it.
Hes 18 not 20. Birthday in October 2003. This has been beaten to death on these forums.
Math fail? If his birthday is 2003 then he would be 19.
Also IAAF states Sumner is 20.
Someone born in October 2003 is currently 18 and will turn 19 this coming October (I.e., in 5 months). That is a completely typical age for a high school senior.
No idea if the IAAF listed age is correct, but there’s another LR thread where several posters state it is not.

So is it legal to pay him like 5k to use his NIL to promote the meet? Seriously between the sub 4:03 guys and 1:49 ones we should have a couple epic races but I don't see them happening. Or some hot 2 mile. Maybe this is the new normal and we will have depth like this every year but this might also be a once every 20 year type event...

When is the next meet for both of them, even if separate? June is young. Disappointing how nationals are so watered down now. Imagine if we have two different USATF nationals?!

*six different USATF nationals

I think even the mentioned of a pacer for a matchup like this, is part of an underlying, "the mark is everything" mentality. Granville had not help well over 20 years ago, and this mark has stood up. That's the way this mark should be looked at or improvement of it..just my own opinion. I also think both should have tried to make this happen, it is THE most compelling matchup now in quite a while as they are separated by only .02, altho Sumner's effort winning is the more impressive to me even if just barely slower. He won his race, Flatt was chasing a faster race and a bit back of winning. Sumner is clearly in peak form at least as of last week, I think he could run sub 1:46.00 if pushed last 15 meters.
It’s easy to talk about how insane the 4 sub 4 miles this season are for US HS boys running, but I think these two are the most impressive of the bunch
Relatively speaking Sumner and Flatt’s 800 performances are more impressive than the miles in my opinion. Granville’s record hasn’t been close to being touched for years, and it is now under threat by 2 guys. Crazy year
Sub 4s are impressive, especially in the HS only meets. Currently, Martin > Sahlman @ mile unless Sahlman races Martin to prove otherwise.
Sumner is 18y.o. while Flatt just turned 19. Both are incredible but factually speaking, plenty of 19y.os have gone faster than 1:46.45 (Granville) but no 18 y.os have (in the US!)
Sumner > Flatt regardless of the 18 vs 19 age difference.
Either way it's the fast 800s, including Harrison & Salhman's performances that are most impressive this year. The shoes do have measurable affect on mile distance but not at 800 where they lace up 400 sprint shoes, not dragonfly's.
Good to see these athletes understand that these so-called National HS meets are NOT what it is about. These people should be at USATF U20 to earn a way to compete at a World Championship in their age group, and hopefully get a medal there. Should be a good field for W800 (if all 3 show up - Willis, Whittaker and Gorarrian), M800 (Flatt and Sumner), M1500 (Kessler, Salman, Burns, Martin, etc. ). Only two can make the team. Of course college U20 athletes are also eligible.

Sahlman ran 2 seconds faster than Gary and its Gary>Sahlman until proven otherwise? He was even in a pro race last week too with perfect weather and didnt run faster either. At the very least its Sahlman = Martin, but in no scenario is Martin clearly above him.

And you didn't understand his post.
No, I did. This post is about USATF, and what what a national championship is. The Professional Track and Field championships. That umbrellas every other 'nat'l champs' he could be referencing. The fact that the person said six indicates to me they are juvenile and misinformed. There is only one USATF meet that really matters in outdoor track. And that is the Professional USATF Nationals each year in June. Sorry that you do not understand where the money is. Not some watered down other meet.
