I get it, if they're injured they shouldn't run but this happens all too often- the start lists seem to change too much.
It's almost as bad as hyping races as record attempts and no one goes with the rabbit.
I guess they have to be willing to lose a race. I remember Farah losing an indoor race to a teenager who lost a shoe then won double Olympic Gold.
I disagree. Announcing the field is part of building the hype, and God knows, track needs to be better at building hype. I'm sick of meets where you don't know the fields until 1-2 days before it will take place. How do you get people invested if they don't know who is running? For all the people who have scratched, the overwhelming majority that were announced are still in there. I wouldn't go to Pre feeling that I was missold
