When did I say that? I asked why other nationalities (and far better athletes) could go to Doha while Fischer couldn't? There is allways a perfectly good excuse for ducking meets, the strange thing is when better athletes show up at these meets.
So what do you want Fisher to run at Doha then? Maybe the 3K steeple is more to your liking? Or should he hop down to the 800m while hes there. Ill wait for an answer but I know its not coming.
Is your reading comprehension that bad? I'm the one doing the second language thing here. I never said I specifically wanted him to do anything, other than asking why Doha specifically was an excuse for him not going.
USATF has said that he must run the 10,000 to qualify for Worlds. This is not necessarily Grant’s choice.
The 10,000 will not be contested at USATF‘s this year.
"This is not necessarily Grant’s choice."
I am hearing this a lot. Grant is a grown man with a degree from Stanford. I am pretty sure if he wants to run a certain event or gear his schedule a certain way he has the ability to do so. Josh Thompson ran indoors for Bowerman. The only guy.
"Jerry, instead of running my 683rd Time Trial with Marc Scott and Woody Kincaid can I please run against the WORLD CLASS competition at the Pre Fontaine Classic." That's all he has to say.
He is the glaring hole in this meet. Our best runner is running a 10K for time (of course) instead.
p.s. I am so worked up about this because I bought a bunch of tickets and am taking some kids to this meet. "You get to see everyone but Grant Fisher."
So you threw a fit on the internet instead of spending 30 seconds looking up to find out that Grant is running USAs the night before?
I was being hyperbolic. I really think it's a simple cost-benefit analysis. If there was enough money to be made by racing every Diamond league race, then we'd see more BTC athletes running them.
I really think the bonus structure gives outsized rewards to making world teams. I'd love to see a real contract though.
No, Jerry doesn't work like that. He doesn't care about money, he cares about making teams and medals. Yes those are two huge determinants for bonuses and other things, so you can say in the abstract the incentive isn't there. He completely controls their schedules with some communication in certain situations e.g. letting Fisher choose to go for ARs over indoor medals. But there's no way if he got an athlete that was trying to maximize their earnings he would be OK with them racing 6 times in Europe. That would objectively make more money, but it would be at odds with his philosophy.
You are essentially correct. however, Mark Scott has raced frequently in Europe because… he is European (British). although Jerry does control much he does allow athletes to consult then pick and choose.
Oh come on, don't you guys agree with the general point that it would be nice if the top american runners face some elite non american runners more than just the olympics and the wc? It could even be valuable experience come championships.
Couldn’t agree more. Huge fan of Grant but I hate the way BTC operates. If everyone else raced as infrequently as they do the sport would be dead.
Directly organizing, controlling the timing, and the circumstances of the racing helps hide any, um, "impropriety" that the club may be engaging in. See: Shelby Houlihan.
There's a big difference between a TT 12:53 and what a Berega, Kejelcha, or freeking Edris do to you the last 1K or so.
This is just like a year ago. Centro and Hocker were going to medal, because championship 1500s always go 3:33/34 or something. Rupp's marathon PR is still about a mile behind, you know.
Fisher ran his last 2k under 5 min. Take that and chew on it.

It’s May folks.
last I heard, track gets going in June and the big meets are July-September.

Except its like this every year with all the big names in American distance running.
Didn't he literally just race in the US? Dont know why thats easier while living in Europe....
Come on…
He is trading at altitude in Flag and needed to shock his system before speed work prior to running the mile at Pre.
Why are so many posters on a running forum so uninformed?
Weird how he can live in Europe, train in the US, race in the US, while Fischer et.al can't live in the US and race in the US.
Speaking of uninformed, you got the wrong reason for why he ran the sound running meet. "Shock his system", lol. Why are so many posters on a running forum so uninformed?
You’re giving Jerry too much credit on Scott. He’ll race once in England in all likelihood before their national meet. If he qualifies, he won’t race again until Worlds. After Worlds sure he might let him do some low-competition road races in England. It’s the same playbook just a different continent.
Credit to Scott for chasing World Indoors glory over a soft (for) Mo Farah 10K record. Maybe he can prove me wrong and be on the DL circuit after Worlds.

This is such a bleak way of setting up a competition schedule.

My point. Grant Fisher is a super star of our sport. He is the best the USA has to offer at the moment. He is in the best shape and condition of his entire life.
The TRACK FAN in me wants to see what he can do in a race where it's not just the Bowerman guys.
I am not saying he has to go full Connor Mantz and just throw himself in every race, every week from the 3K to the Half but more races would be better for the sport.
Everyone loves Grant Fisher. Including me. Great ambassador for the sport and a great all around person. He also has broke American records this year in the 5000 and 10000 meters.
Congratulations! I am a huge Rupp fan and if someone breaks his records I want it to be him.
Both of these record breaking performances were time trials witnessed by very few people. No TV. I had to watch some grainy video like the Zapruder film that shows 25% of the track.
WTF? How is good for the sport? When Rupp ran 26:44 it was in front of a PACKED house at Hayward Field with other clubs involved. I was in the stands and it was AWESOME.
Anyway, Grant chooses to skip USA Indoors and Worlds this year...
Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the best MD in the world, is in the states running against NAU but not Grant Fisher.
The Prefontaine Classic features the best runners in the world. Hayward Field will be packed.
Selemon Barega, Paul Chelimo & Jacob Kiplimo running the 5K - No Grant Fisher!
None of the featured races include America's best distance runner. I am sure Jerry has him running a lesser event. USATF 10K maybe? I can't see the start list.
Kudos for Bowerman breaking so many records and running so many time trials.
However, I have a lot more respect for the smaller clubs who put their athletes out in major competitive events for the fans to enjoy.
Treat the Sport like a Spectator Event.
Tell me you’re an uninformed idiot without telling me you’re an uninformed idiot.
The problem is that Fisher is just so much better than EVERY other American right now that all his record attempts just look like time trials with him and Moh Ahmed, since he's 200m ahead of the next best American. I'd much rather see Grant run his ARs on AMERICAN SOIL than fly halfway across the world to place 3rd in some Diamond league time trial that nobody watches.
.
So, he is so good that no american can touch him but at the same time he has to duck international competition? Right. PS, diamond league has some tens of millions of viewers each meet. "Nobody"?
Who is he ducking? You do realize Ahmed is the reigning Olympic silver medalist, right?

You do realize that both his ARs came in very deep races with fast runners from other clubs, right? Did you even watch them?
It might look like a "time trial" to you because the BTC guys are so much better, but it simply isn't.

I get what you are saying and you are a wealth of great information. Thanks.
Both AR's are super impressive. Obviously. I would debate how "deep" these fields are.
We can agree that he will be running by himself on Friday night. ZERO other US runners are capable of of running sub 27. I get it. He has to run it.
Besides Mo Ahmed, who has Grant run against this year who has a world class resume?
