I will never understand this obsession with super secret time trials when there are so many meets with good competition. Seems like it's a weird ego thing too - like they're too good to compete with others. I like Cole and Cooper too, I just don't get it.
When I first heard of the Oregon record attempt, I thought it was completely dumb given the existence of the Penn relays record attempt. But now, I’m not so sure. Look at all the commentary and posting that has happened since the Oregon attempt was announced (granted, most of it critical of the Duckies). And, if they actually run really well there will be even more chatter leading up to the Penn relays run. Two races are better than one? Anticipation if Oregon drops a faster-than-hell gauntlet?
Well the World Athletics doesn't recognize a World Record in the event anyways, so it would count as a World Best. I don't think the same rules apply.
I honestly think Oregon's decision is probably just a fun, spur-of-the-moment decision. It was probably a "Hey, we're not doing anything this weekend, why not run a 4xmile and see if we can break the record." They probably don't care enough to book 4 plane tickets to go all the way across the country to run a dumb 4xmile.
It would be kind of a dick move to Penn Relays if Oregon absolutely smash the WB and make it out of reach and completely take the piss out of the Penn Relays race.
If you take the Oregon squad consisting of West, Teare, Hocker, and Wisner against a healthy OAC team of McDonald, Beamish, Klecker, and Hoare, who wins? I'd lean towards OAC, but I guess we'll never know
I have less interest in seeing them go head to head to jog 1200 and kick 4 times and run 16:15 than seeing if they can throw down a really fast World best and then have the Penn race really get after it to break it
Fairly certain it would just come down to the last leg since I doubt anyone will push hard enough out front alone to break away. So pretty much who do you think would win between Hoare and Hocker?
Id pick Hocker, his kick is much better and he has a faster PR.
Cooper Teare strava: "Back to some racing/ pacing this weekend. 5k Friday, 4xmile Saturday. Y'all gotta get over this bad for the sport stuff and run fast yourself if you want to 'make it better'
