I was so disappointed when I met my running hero. She grew up in California like myself. She was a decent runner in College but rally excelled as a pro. I always loved her story and respected how she stuck with it until she finally made it. I introduced her to my daughter and she was downright rude. She never acknowledged her and completely ignored us. I am no longer a fan.
It’s dumb to have heroes that are athletes or celebrities.
It's dumb to have heroes in which the basis for looking at them as a hero is that they are athletes or celebrities.
It is possible for some athletes/celebrities to actually be genuinely awesome people, entirely outside their athletic/celebrity success.
I also ran into Mark Cuban while on a tour at old Cowboy stadium 20 something years ago. He stopped and took pictures with our entire group and signed stuff for the kids.
Mark Cuban randomly came up to a group I was with at a mall in Cleveland and offered us free tickets to the Cavs game that night. A female friend had absolutely no idea who he was. He pretended to be offended and hurt. He was extremely nice and funny.
Idk op, famous people can have off/bad days. It's also a lot harder for an introverted quasi/not-famous runner to fake it than it is for a super personable extrovert like Mark Cuban. Maybe the runner is just a dick. Maybe she was having a rough day, although it sounds like she certainly could have been more tactful.

This does not sound like Jordan as some on the thread are asking. Despite my feelings on Jordan's questionable dealings with Salazaar she is extremely nice, plus she excelled in college. I would guess this is Rowbury the OP is referring to. Definitely fits the bill.
Real heroes IMO are the men & women that made the world a better place for decades or even centuries after their work. Guys like Willis Carrier (air conditioning inventor), the Wright Brothers, Stewart Adams (inventor of ibuprofen), Jonas Salk (polio vaccine), etc.
When I was getting my PhD in Chemical Engineering I was able to meet (albeit briefly) some of the most accomplished engineers in the world at the time, at conferences and other events, and by and large 99% of them were humble and kind, often downplaying their achievements.
Someone running a 2:07 marathon... congratulations? Pro runners don't even get to claim they are entertaining millions of people like players in the NBA/NFL since no one cares about pro runners.

Not only she won the NCAA, but Rowbury was also 7th in the Olympic final one year after college. She won the world bronze a year after that. How does that qualify as "sticking until she finally made it"? She later admitted things came too easy for her right after college.

This is a little confusing. How did you introduce your daughter to her if she supposedly completely ignored you?
Did you just walk up to her and were like “Hey (hero), I’m a big fan, this is my daughter”. And then she just looked at you- clearly indicated that she actually heard you- and then proceeded to say nothing and just walked away? I just feel like something is missing from this. There’s been tons of times I’ve been thinking about something, focused, or just out of it, and someone said something to me and I just straight up didn’t even hear it. It just doesn’t seem that likely she actively chose to ignore a person and their daughter who admired her.
I appreciate you not sharing her name. You gave enough clues that I know. She has always been rude.
I don’t understand the point of being cryptic. If whatever happened was a big enough deal to start a thread about, it’s a big enough deal to name the offender.

Chill Bro. She only ran 4:12 for the 1500m in college. Just identifying someone who seems to fit the mold of not being known as a college star but really excelled as a bro. Yet also could fit the personality persona.
Another possibilities that could make sense would be Kim Conley. Definitely not known for her college, just seemed unlikely to be the OP's idol. But lets just say after some of the $hit that went down in Davis from the situation with her and Drew I could definitely see her people the person who would not impress you in real life.
