Great run by PSP. That said, world indoors is basically a competitive invite and not a real world championship. Remember Drew Windle got silver in 2018 - if I asked you to name the top 50 US mid-d runners the last 10 years, would you even mention him?
Elle has a nose for the finish line, great positioning for the silver down the stretch, moving out to lane two worked well off that final turn. A breakthrough race -- she's built like a female Pre, strong young woman.

So because someone you don't know of wins a medal it means it's not a real world championship? Baloney. PSP is a world indoor silver medallist and always will be now.

Worked well, to accomplish what? She was not gaining on Hailu. Accomplished jumping sideways into Taye?
This is the nature of mid-d, and to a slightly lesser extent, long-d racing at the top level. It's physical and often a little dirty. Even the top people get involved, just look at Jakob. That's why pros need to get on the circuit if they want medals.
Video 10:28 (race 8:30), Taye is gaining on Purrier and just when Taye gets to Purrier's shoulder, Purrier quickly moves out from line 1 into lane 2. Taye swerves to avoid collision. And we can see from Purrier's constant position relative to Hailu, that Purrier was not speeding up. But Taye had to slow down because Purrier changed lanes when she didn't have space. No contact, but that was only because Taye gave way. DQ worthy?
She was in front so had track position. She moved and took the risk, it could have ended badly for Purrier if Taye ran into the back of her but that's hard racing. Absolutely not worthy of a DQ. You need an edge to be competitive in the mid-d events, only the people who are so good they can run away from the field get to play nice - like Kipyegon
NB Boston (and especially Purrier) desperately need a PR trainer. Her post-race mixed zone interview was awkward and defensive, USAs was a disaster and has festered since. NB should step in and protect their brand.
Yeah, THAT’S what we need in the world, MORE PR people. Geez.

I didn't say I haven't heard of Drew Windle - I have. My point still stands that you don't see people like him sniffing outdoor medals.
Doesn't mean PSP didn't have a great run. Just helps keep it in perspective.
Idk. I'm just not crazy about Elle.....maybe others feel the same and that's why there's no Elle MF PSP thread...
Elle had poor sportsmanship. She didn't congratulate her friend Heather for winning, she acted like the mile was HER race and she lost it, not a fair race that Heather won. It's one thing to be disappointed in the moment, but even afterwards she never really congratulated Heather. Just makes me feel like it's all about her...
and then there's........the other thing....
I know this is not fair. I know that she didn't do anything to warrant this...but after Shelby was popped, I became more cynical of US distance running, and if I had an inkling of suspicion, I suspected. Elle had a rapid improvement that seemingly came from no where, a lot like the way Shelby did. So when she does really well, like at World Indoors, I just don't feel super excited about it. It's sad, but she's just not someone I root for anymore. And again, there's no cloud, but when I see a runner progress out of no where, I'm going to be less interested in them.
idk. her progression does not look that suspicious to me.
really, it is difficult not to suspect every world level runner. i just don't see how her progression stands out as abnormal.
Mods--it's a bit ridiculous that this post got removed. You don't have to agree, but I in no way said that Elle IS a doper. I was pointing out that ever since Shelby was popped, that we're just more cynical with runners who appeared to have pretty drastic and sudden improvement. The message board was "where is the love for Elle" I am commenting on why I am not personally excited about the performance. I recognized that this wasn't fair to Elle.
Like it or not, Shelby's pos changed the way fans see the sport and runners they once liked. We're more suspicious now, and it's honestly on athletes to prove they are clean and care about clean sports, not fans to shut up about their suspicions.
