Letsrun: we want more beef in the running world to make it more exciting
Letsrun when someone starts some beef:
There's "beef" and there's NO CLASS. What Engels did is classless. The way he said it is trashy.
Nuguse is still in college, why is Engels starting beef with a college runner? Why is he bragging so much about his ability to finish 3rd when in the past he's been a USA champion and World Champion finalist? Shouldn't he be aiming higher than 3rd?
The fact that he is picking on a schoolboy and has already conceded 1st and 2nd place shows like he's a weak, pathetic, little man. The mullet and mustache are clearly overcompensating for what he lacks in other areas.
You’re reading way too far into it lmao

Correct. Him saying he didn’t race well and feels he should have beaten one of the guys that finished in front of him is hardly sh*t talking.
And why are people so obsessed with Nuguse’e DNS at the Olympics. The guy was hurt and dropped out, Bad timing, but it happens.
I wouldn't call it an obsession, but rather disbelief that someone would take an Olympic spot then, get on a plane and fly to Tokyo, then not race because his foot hurts.

I disagree with Engels. Nuguse was definitely in better shape. His solo 3:34 and NCAAs race were more impressive than anything Engels ever did in his career (let's say his 3:33 win, semis in Doha, and 3:34 DL races are at the top). Engels, Nuguse and Hocker all ran tactically poor races. Hocker waited too long to move and had to have a superhuman kick to win a race he wins by 5-10 meters if he runs smartly. Engels and Nuguse let a gap develop and ran wide when they should've been aggressive chasing Centro. I'd counter Craig's take and say maybe he could've won 5 times out of 100 running a much smarter race with Nuguse racing poor tactically. If their tactics were close to even, Nuguse was going to win.
In what world is a 3:34 in an ACC semi better than a US title?

The last two Summer Olympics, U.S. men have had a gent finish last, 800m final. Boris Berian never recovered from finishing last. Nuguse did not, as you say want to fly to Olympics and finish D.F.L. I hope you are not implying that Nuguse should have given his spot to another runner who brags about drinking all the d@mn time.

After these comments, I lost what little remaining respect I had for Engels. His is a d*** of the highest order. . . .
This is a very disrespectful thing to say about Nuguse. It's also a flat out lie. I think even Teare would have beat Engels in that 1500m final.
Craig has been taking notes in the offseason on how to stir up more emotions in T&F. Craig's comments are #GoodForTheSport. If Craig comes back and makes worlds, he talked the talk. If Nuguse beats him out again for the US team, Nuguse has free rein to talk some sh*t right back and I hope he takes it. We need some rivalries!

I find it hilarious him saying he didn't once think about OAC when they were naming UAC, and that he doesn't even know what "that group is called." . . . "Best Miler in America" - stay a clown kid
This is great! The Coffee Club (OAC) has been chirping about UAC on their podcast for a while, and Craig's responding in kind with a solid response. Let's go!
He’s doing what many throughput time have done when they are surpassed in their endeavors - trying to find ways to stay relevant.

*Fixed it for you
Craig is opening his mouth he better be ready to win at Millrose.

Ok. USA only had 2 runners in the 1500 at the Olympics because his foot hurt. He pulled out of Milrose. Probably because he has a headache. Nuguse is a great runner, but he doesn’t seem to like to race. I remember when he discussed not caring about running because he has a good degree.
As much as I like Craig I have to disagree with his take.
In his form at the 2021 trials, Craig loses to Yared 95/100 times.
I perceived that Craig was unfocused in 2021 in comparison to Hocker, Nuguse and Centro.
Maybe his 2021 failures are the kick in the pants that he needs to be all in on running.
Even if Engels never again makes an olympics or worlds team although I'd think he will have about three more decent chances in the next 3-4 years, he will generate clicks, publicity, enthusiasm and a general positive mood, so he is good for the sport. This might change eventually to a ridiculous clown show but not yet.
An interesting quote to use for the thread title. I would've guessed you'd pull the more inflammatory, "Cole Hocker's been overhyped."
Yared should not have been allowed to represent the USA. He is not a US citizen. He is clearly Irish. It was literally written on his singlet in the trials. How was he not DQ for this at an the AMERICAN Olympic Trials???

I didn’t say it was better I said it was more impressive. There’re many US titlists who could not solo a 3:34 1500 including Engels. Obviously winning a US title is a better achievement but we’re discussing Nuguse’s fitness vs. Engels’

100
What team has Eric Jenkins gone to?
Millrose is meaningless for Nuguse because he wouldn't even be able to accept prize money. He already has a qualifying mile time for NCAA's. There is a huge storm in the area so travel is dangerous. He's better off focusing on NCAAs.
Engels is pathetic for bragging about being faster than this college kid who 3 months before the Olympic Trials was training for the 10k and racing cross country. Nuguse ran a full XC season and a grueling NCAA outdoor season before the trials. Engels had years to prepare for that meet and only had to focus on the 1500. And for the record Nuguse would have beaten Engels 100 out of 100 times.
Too many of these precious guys prepare themselves with little racing.
Then instead of letting loose their preparation they try race.
That leads to guys who could win finishing 5th.
Watch how Stewy McSweyn races. He leaves nothing to chance and is never wondering if he could have done better.
Yeah he may lose, but no one will say he didn't give it a shot.
Never die not knowing.
