This is a stunningly bad choice. In previous years, she'd have deserved it. Not for this. Plenty of athletes quit on their teams or lose their almost supernatural abilities at key moments. Plenty talk about why. But I'm not going to go on about civilization falling apart because of it. She was the most famous athlete in the country outside of the major sports. Probably their second choice was Sha'Carri Richardson. There are many who were actually deserving. If this was worldwide, how about a certain Ethiopian with world records now at 5000m, 10000m, 15k, and half marathon? Or a female Dutch distance runner with multiple Olympic golds, or an American 400m hurdler and world record holder?
