So just to confirm: you're saying that occasional mask-wearing is incredibly effective at preventing the transmission of viruses? Just want to make sure I'm following your logic.
Of course. I am against mandates because i value freedom and the right of every person to decide more than the benefit, not because they dont work.
Fair enough. As you can see elsewhere in this thread, there are also plenty of people who don't believe masks work - so those are two different conversations.
In our case, I think we'll get along fine (eventually). I don't see any need for long-lasting mask mandates, I'm just suggesting that people may voluntarily choose to wear a mask when they're feeling under the weather, which presumably won't bother you. While I believe masks are effective, I don't believe that they're so effective that I'll never get sick and end up with a weak immune system.
Also worth noting that my perspective on this is probably different as the parent of two young kinds than it was for the first three decades of my life. I used to basically never get sick (other than some brief periods when I was in unusually heavy training), so I wouldn't have seen much point in me or anyone else masking up in the post-COVID era. My immune system is strong, I figured. But after six years of getting sick multiple times a year thanks to exposure to kids, I'm a little more eager for anything that might cut that rate down a bit.
