It's always the drug addicts who think there's no such thing as control. For instance, I have a drink about once a month at a restaurant with my meal. News flash, drug addicts, it's possible to be disciplined and in control of your body. Just because drug addicts have psychological issues that make them prone to being an addict chasing some feeling they'll never find in drugs/alcohol, doesn't mean we are all like that.
Anyways, good for him for being in recovery. But it's always laughable when addicts generalize the entire population as the same as them.
It's always laughable when people who know literally nothing about a person can dismiss them based on a video they didn't even watch...

Wrong, liar.
Peterson, who began his teaching career at Harvard, earning tenure there, was not fired from his current employer the University of Toronto. That's why he's currently listed among their faculty in Psych:
https://www.psych.utoronto.ca/people/directories/all-faculty/jordan-petersonThe university and his union, in fact, supported his academic freedom in the face of student protests and media backlash. From Wiki: "The college did not consider a full disciplinary hearing necessary and accepted Peterson entering into a three-month undertaking to work on prioritizing his practice and improving his patient communications."
The university has continued to support him through his rehab from drug addiction even as he's moved from Canada to Belgrade. Guy has it real tough. If anything, he has those darn liberals that he hasn't been fired but instead protected to the nth degree.
He was nearly fired. He's survived a couple of misconduct hearings. No doubt the university kept him on because he attractedsl attention and therefore $$$.
He's actually pretty awful to listen to in his populist YouTube videos academically. It's all aimed at a very low level. He also speaks terribly, as pointed out by another poster, doesn't breath properly and comes across as hesitant and lacking confidence (some times he is worse than others) and it seems strange that a public speaker hasn't learned to speak from their diaphragm, take measured pauses, etc..
Usually what he says is very generalist and designed to appeal to a certain demographic. For instance, there are a couple of videos of him going around on Tiktok right now of him saying that men don't want to marry clever, successful women and another of how he's spent years "working with law firms" and all women lawyers retire in their thirties because their rich successful husbands take care of them.
Unfortunately, some guys take what he says and run with it and he's become the poster anti hero of behaviours such as negging and the Incel movement l, which are actually very harmful to society and, at a lower level, result in a lot of men being rejected by women due to their behaviours
I wouldn't tend to follow his word as gospel. He makes a lot of errors in his thinking and while it's not entirely his fault he's popular with the Incel movement, he hardly discourages it.
The real question is will you die ignorant or will you at some point become mature enough to realize 99.9% of what Peterson says is correct?
At there very least maybe don't judge people based on 20 second Tik Tok clips ripped from context?

Ok, so it was bad for him. I'm guessing over a million people drink alcohol a day in this country. And, how many are attributed to violence and accidents?
I know many great runners from the 80's that drank a beer or two almost daily at dinner. As every doctor in the world has said "everything in moderation"
Just because this guy couldn't handle it, does not mean the rest of us will have a problem

It’s easy to see why Peterson’s vaguely Jungian analysis of the world appeals to struggling young men, doesn’t change that he’s a total hack. He used to say addiction was ‘all in the head’ and now that he’s gone through it he’s preaching about the dangers? Gtfoh. Not to mention he did an experimental Russian coma treatment to overcome it? Nothing about that? Didn’t even get sober the hard way like most ‘addicts’ do. Dudes always been a grifter.

He may nearly have been fired, but the fact is that he was not and he is currently on faculty at UT. I just get ticked off when idiots like Steve the Addict state these outright lies in order to promote one ideological/political stance versus another. The fact is that Peterson still has his tenured job b/c of the following liberal-backed institutional bedrocks:
-Tenure, which at the university level (different w/ K-12) protects academic freedom; i.e., one's right to publish one's findings and opinions w/out fear of being fired. This is in Peterson's contract and it's the basic reason they could not remove him at UT even though I'm sure the liberals who run the school wish they could have.
-Protections from discrimination on the basis of disability: Again, this is in Peterson's contract. His addiction is construed as a disability. They can't fire him b/c he's literally claimed disability (addiction). The guy is living in Europe right now, far from Toronto, working his stuff out b/c and only b/c he has been allowed to do so by the very liberal policies and the liberal academic administrators that Steve and all the other brain deads on here believe are chasing conservatives out of academia.
-And, as you said, he's attracted attention, big audiences, etc. to UT so even though the liberals who run UT probably hate his guts and think he's a community college-level scholar, they're not going to make any serious attempt to remove him. They are just hoping he stays in Siberia and gets a job over there-- lol.

Even his intellectual bona fides are just rehashed Jungianism. Idiots think he invented the wheel when literally everything he puts forward was developed by another man (and much more eloquently). He’s another derivative college hack with a persecution complex.

We say this like being a professor means anything...
People like Marc Lamont Hill are "professors"...
I've seen Wal-Mart greeters brighter than Hill... and there's THOUSANDS of these unhinged imbeciles polluting campuses all over the country.
Everyone here who's getting fired up because you don't have an alcohol problem... 1 - you're not the intended audience; 2 - If you've got your sh|t together then why do you feel the need to post on a message about the dangers of alcohol abuse, bragging about how you don't abuse alcohol?
There are people who would be well served by listening to this guy's message... not sure why that triggers some of you who don't need to worry about it?

LOL his clip talking about alcoholism is at least 5 years old if not more. He talks about alcohol being addictive BEFORE his "addiction" to benzos. Which, in reality, were prescribed by a medical doctor and he had a terrible reaction to it with his SSRIs.
He almost died and tried everything he could (went to clinics all over north america) before going to Russia. Hackfruad is quite the projection.
I don't like everything he says and everything he does. But on the whole, most of what he says is 1) true 2) genuine and 3) coming from a place of humility (He often speaks of his own ignorance)
Yes, this thread is hilarious. I love how people criticize him for re-using "Jungian psychology" as if everybody knows what that is.

What really irks me most is when former addicts/junkies want massive respect for quitting and then they start grandstanding and acting like authorities. Why don't I get props for my self-control? I rarely drank more than 3-4 beers a week, never did drugs, smoked maybe 3 cigarettes in my whole life... fonking weaklings.
