I guess I don't understand why there are so many Americans still there. We have known for a while the withdrawal was coming. Yes, the Taliban take over was faster than anticipated but Biden announced full troop withdrawal by 9/11 on April 14th. Why were people waiting until the last minute when everyone knew it was going to be a sh*t show at the end.

I do understand why many Afghans could not leave easily and are stuck there, but if I'm American I would have been on a plane long ago.

Because they didn’t think Biden would let the Taliban roll through the entire country in two weeks. They thought the Afghan government would be ruling rate now not the Taliban. Biden could of used the best military in the world to stop them but instead he spends his little time not in Delaware obsessing over his covid vax commercials.

Not necessarily. Afghanistan has been watering international terrorists a long time. 3000 died on 9/11 because of it. A stable Afghan government would not be such a breeding ground. But Biden did nothing to help prevent it’s taken over after 20 years of US support. Now that the terrorists Taliban has taken over all sorts of crazies like ISIS-K whom killed these marines have been emboldened.

The world has been globalized. It’s not the 1800s anymore. It doesn’t take a year to round the world but 24 hours. What happens on the other side of the world matters.

Absolutely not. Once the US hightails it from terrorists killing US troops in Afghanistan you think they're going to call it square and leave us alone? They are going to be emboldened and start planning the next terror attack on US soil. I know the cosmopolitan left wants to live in this fantasy world where you treat these extremists like you would your standard European they understand where the line in the stand is and respect the line. That is pure nonsense. We should have never surrendered Bagram and we should have left a small peacekeeping force with the objective of preventing this region from becoming a terrorist hotspot. The US is war-weary I get it, but the people who are threats to America don't stop just because we are tired of fighting. We have 100's of thousands of US troops around the globe and the idea that we could not keep 3000 in the world's biggest terrorist hotspot in a situation where no US troop had been killed in a year and a half is ridiculous. The endless dialed in on this a symbolic victory and now we have a situation where we have to leave knowing there will be a future terrorist attack on the West and American citizens will be help hostage by the Taliban for ransom or we go back in to restore some form of order. That is really where the situation is. There is no situation where the US completes this withdrawal without further death to us or our allies and the groups now rushing back into the power void decide to just leave the US alone going forward.

Trump was right that we did not need so many troops in the country, but he was wrong to pull us completely out. Now that Biden is seeing the result of this mess he has created that he is not reversing course is even more wrong than whatever Trump's mistakes were.

This idea has always been completely absurd. "If we leave a small occupying force in the middle east, all of the terrorists will be completely distracted and forget the US homeland exists." Total fear-mongering nonsense.

Dropping bombs and killing civilians and creating constant instability is a surefire way to cause more terrorism and America hatred. The constant occupation, which has weakened our military and our financial stability at home, is the real danger to the American people.

And of course, you continue to lie about the options available to Biden. The conflict was inevitably and obviously going to escalate significantly if the US didn't stick to the pullout timeline that Trump agreed to with the Taliban. The choice was not "leave a small occupying force or bail entirely", the choice was "do another giant troop surge or bail entirely"
