1. He has said many times that climbing is his strength, and he played to it
2. He said in the pre-race video of PPM race plan, that his tactic was to attack the ascent for a PB, and take the downhill with what he had left. Absolutely spot on, and not 'going out too hard'. Job done and the win.
3. Kilian Jornet summited in 2:09:12 when he won it - and the 2021 winner of the ascent did it in 2:12. This was one of the most impressive things SJD has done - he's a real pocket-rocket on the climbs and he'll dominate the ascent at least for a while, barring injury.
4. As someone has said, not SJD's fault that the Europeans couldn't get over. He executed to a T .
5. He also specifically said that he wanted to race Kilian on the Peak. Mind you I think he'd get well beaten, but he'd be in and around on the ascent, and maybe could get pulled along to a faster time if the top guys were there. Would be in a shout for a podium.
Seth has sponsorships (or 'submissions for review') for equipment, clothes, watches and seeing as he seems to eat like a bird, prob doesn't spend much on himself apart from camera gear. Their cars for example aren't flashy, prob paid off, and they've a good family unit. He'll do alright, especially when he keeps performing.
One major plus that he has is the daily videos, but more importantly the engagement on them. That's big - QOD and so on keep the audience and the algorithm both ticking along.
