Galen Rupp should be coached by Ryan Hall.
My my, how the turn tables!

Oh good grief, your neighborhood fun run is starting go ahead and get out there and run your 7 minute miles. Guys who make the Olympics and especially guys who get medals are not jokes. Don't forget your bad high school's alumni fun run coming up either, maybe you could crack seven.
Maybe now (along with the rest of the Olympic wannabes) can go get real jobs.
The only Americans who compete well were the throwers, they live in vans by the river and Seidel.
She actually worked as a barista and a babysitter. Maybe she should be the one with financial support.
She is the one we all should be proud of.

To each their own but I think there were lots of Americans who competed well. Rai Benjamin comes to mind immediately. So do the 4x400 teams and Frerichs. I think the vast majority of American athletes put forth a great effort.

This is 100% correct. Mike Smith is a clown and a joke. Rupp would be better off coaching himself.
What's wrong with Mike Smith? He's coached NAU well it seems.
The conditions were horrible. Kipchoge has a 2:01 PR and ran 2:08 yesterday. While Rupp's 2:11 may not translate to a 2:04 in good conditions, it was an honest effort. At 35, clearly his best days are behind him.
This has to be a joke Galen and Mo have probably the best two Nike contracts for runners ever they are set for life. For years everything Nike did shoe and tech related for for Galen and Mo.
What kind of post is this… anyone who finished that race is well accomplished. Brutal conditions, only real athletes could finish that race.

Honestly, what is he going to do? He never went to College, doesn't seem to have made much of an impact in the media (he has no social media and barely races these days so why would people sponsor him), his image is tainted with his close ties to Salazar. Cushy retirement as an olympic medallist? He finished 30 seconds faster than Koen Naerts, who at least worked as a nurse before turning pro, pretty much has to pay in cash for everything he needs to run (he was working with victims of the brussels terrorist attack for example, and when his sports career is over plans to continue and build links between what he learned in sports and health). Other runners also have jobs, or activities on the side to give them something... does galen rupp have anything to do?

Did he finish? Did Webb? I think they had a little contest going, who would finish first.

Yes...

Yes, he technically "went" but has he used his degree at all in the real world 12 years later? It's basically a worthless piece of paper that does nothing but satisfy the "did you attend college" checkbox on applications.
HAVING SAID THAT, if he's been smart with his money he could potentially have enough banked to basically semi-retire at this point, maybe make some income coaching. Maybe his wife has a career as well.

I’m sure Galen will have exactly zero financial issues after he retires from running.
Galen did not go home devastated.
I think Rupp did well enough. He competed and was a factor until Kipchoge dropped the field.
8th place is a solid finish. Top American, top 10, Plenty of dnf’s on a hot day.

Alberto is a tough act to follow.
How was his Mike Smith training?
Would Jerry have been a better choice?
Should Ritz start coaching him?
Who else could coach a marathoner?

Never been a Galen fan but honestly I was impressed with his performance today. I expected him to drop out but he didn’t. He gutted it out to the end even though it wasn’t going to be an impressive time nor a medal

To Salazar he’s not the same runner. You can’t lose touch of your 5k/10k ability and run a great marathon.
Y’all can joke all ya want about PEDs or whatever man but truth be told he did better with Salazar the way they raced the range that worked. Mike smith is ducking joke I know the guy vaguely but he’s a joke.
He needs to go back to college and open a hair salon.
He isn't racing at the highest level anymore. He might run, but he isn't racing

Agreed, 8th place is pretty good in very tough conditions with many DNFs. It's also higher than Ritz or Hall ever finished in an Olympic marathon in the prime of their careers.
I think Rupp showed enough to demonstrate that he can still win a major marathon.
