Guaranteed he knew a while ago, just made sure he’d f**k Engels who I think would have had a far better chance than him anyway
Good! Engels choked at the trials and is likely doped to boot.

That’s not how it works. If you have a stress fracture — yeah, you give up your spot a month out. A quad strain he picked up in the week leading up to the games means you get treatment like crazy and pray it’s good enough to go on raceday. He obviously tested it out in warmups and couldn’t go.
Then you get out there and do your best, hobbling around the track if that's what it takes. At least start and have the balls to try. It's the frigg'n Olympics and you're there to represent your country to the best of your ability. If you think you will not run, then at least tell Team USA so they can get your backup on the plane. I have a hard time believing Nuguse didn't know about this for sometime. USA should have had three athletes competing. Totally unacceptable.
Ok tough guy, he should definitely go out there and risk further injury and possibly setting his entire career back to be the third best American? give me a break, it’s sports - not war. the dude made the team fair and square, got hurt in his final prep for the games. it’s not that crazy
But now he is not an Olympian. You must start to be an Olympian.
A false start would have been fine but you must show up to the line.

Nuguse's bio will always read, qualified and selected for the 2020 US Olympic team. He goes for that job interview, they're not asking him where he placed.
I would withhold judgment until the facts emerge. Timing would be very important if you are judging whether he should have pulled out earlier.

Then you’d be whining about how embarrassing it was to an American limp around the track. Grow up.
Craig is too busy doing his American running tour to bother with the Olympics
Engels just got beat by Vince Ciattei. Henry Wynne ran a 3:34 last week, shoulda called him up.
People making a lot of assumptions and judgement in this thread.

I bet Clay Travis will have an opinion.
its a tough situation and terrible timing, but it happens. its kind of weird for ND twitter to make the announcement with 10 minutes to the gun, but it mustve really been a last minute thing. im sure a lot of guys line up with injuries and low expectations tho.
This should be a lesson for the future that alternates should be traveling. This isn’t the NCAA championships and quad injuries don’t heal over night. Engels should have been called. Questionable decisions made by Yared and Carlson. They didn’t just ruin 1 Olympic dream but 2 in the process.

Definitely stinks for Engels. I wonder if Nuguse is currently in Tokyo and actually tried to make it happen?
It has nothing to do with Engels.
He didn't make the team.
