Isaiah Harris has been hungry ever since his sixth
place finish at the 2016 Olympic Trials finish. Was looking to be in the best shape of his life two years ago until some injuries came about, which honestly was probably the reason why he didn’t make the Doha 2019 team.
Wejo/Jon on the W800: Wilson/Rogers/Mu
Rojo/Wejo on the M800: Brazier/Hoppel/Murphy
Wejo/Jon for the W1500: Houlihan/Simpson/Purrier
Wejo for the M1500: Hocker/Engels/Centro
The M/W 5/10s are bit fuzzy with sweeps but I generally agree with the picks.
Most egregious pick? Rojo NOT picking Jenny Simpson. I expect a full front page apology in June.
Best pick? Jon picking Ben True for the M10000. Id love to see that happen
There's going to be surprises. A couple of guys made the men's Olympic team in 2016 that were complete dark horses at the time -- Paul Chelimo and Clayton Murphy. The crazy thing is both of them medalled! It's going to be exciting to see who emerges this year at the Trials.
Conner Mantz will definitely be making the team this year in the 10,000m. He is in low 27:00 shape. That mid 29 on a tough XC course like that proves his elite strength.
Fisher, Mantz, True - calling it
I was also very surprised to not see Mason Ferlic on any list yet.
Ferlic will definitely make the team. The question is, in which event?
There's also gonna be negative surprises -- people who don't make the team that we now consider favorites. People late in their careers that haven't visibly started to slip yet -- until they do. Simpson, Centro, Jager, Huddle, True -- people who are favorites because of their track records but are also not young any more and could slip or simply get injured in the next three months.
Sowinski and Centro racing 800m in FL tomorrow, gonna wait until after that to post men's picks (in hopes that results will be telling). Thoughts for women's:
800m
Wilson
Green
Mu
1500m
JENNY
Houlihan
Purrier
Steeple
EMMA
Frerichs
Quigley
5000m
Cranny
Schweizer
Rowbury
10000m
D'Amato
Hall
Sisson
*Insert Purrier and Houlihan into 5k, Cranny and Schweizer into 10k if they choose to do those events instead*

I find it surprising that all three of the “brain trust” are ready to hand Lomong the 5k/10k double again, mostly because of his age (36). It was remarkable that the 2008 Olympic Trials 5th placer at 800m was able to win that double in 2019, but I think that will probably go down as his career year. It seems more likely he gets 2nd or 3rd in the 10k and DNS’s the 5k than winning both, if you ask me.
I’d love to see Sara Hall make an Olympic team. With her fitness, does she have a chance in the 10K?
I think Kiera D'Amato is going to make the team at the 10,000. I kind of wish she was going to altitude to get the added benefits that everyone else is going to have when they're at trials but I still think she can do it. Maybe she will go to the altitude and just hasn't yet? Idk.

Nah I’d already picked him to place 3rd in the steeple.
Let's Give it a whirl. I think there's going to be a youth movement to some degree.
M800: 1. Brazier 2. Hoppel 3. Murphy
W800: 1. Wilson 2. Rogers 3. Price (upset special)
M1500: 1. Hocker 2. Engels 3. Nuguse (i think Centro is done I suppose)
W1500: 1. Houlihan 2. Purrier 3. Johnson
MST: 1. H. Bor 2. Jager 3. Ferlic
WST: 1. Coburn 2. Quigley 3. Frerichs
M5000: 1. Chelimo 2. Fisher 3. E. Bor (I'm going with Lopez being 10K only, and Fisher being 5K only)
W5000: 1. Schweizer 2. Schneider 3. Cranny
M10000: 1. Lomong 2. Kincaid 3. Jenkins
W10000: 1. Sisson 2. Infeld 3. D'Amato
Shall we add every high school kid who breaks 1:51 to the 1,500 list?

Nice I like it. Infeld is still a question mark to me and normally I'd put Hall in there but she doesn't seem to have made any big strides in training. I would have liked to see Cranny try to get that 3rd 10k spot but it doesn't make sense to have her run both, but it could potentially open up a spot for Fraser if Cranny moved to the 10k.

You guys are huffing glue if you think Nuguse will make this olympic team. What has he shown in the last few years that he is capable of doing anything at the trials? He's like 5 seconds off the olympic standard anyway.

If they're the reigning Olympic champion, sure.

Yes, and if they’ve also gone 13:00 for 5000.
I think any HS sub1:51 and 13:00 kid has a good shot this year!
