Didn't see the race video but it sounds like he stepped inside the inside border. Did he get tripped up or was it just a lapse of footing?
I've noticed in previous races that his passing is generally suspect at best. I'm assuming that was part of the issue again today. Would love to get confirmation from someone who saw the race.
Yes, absurd attempt at an inside pass in a curve when there was no space. Ended up with one foot on the other side of the line
There was absolutely no need for him to do that stupid move. Inexperience literally cost him the title.
He had everything going for him:
1) His shoes (dragonfly spike prototype) were far superior.
2) Lewandowski is aging, 33 years and VO2MAX going down year after year puts him at a clear disadvantage.
3) Due to COVID, there were extremely few spectators so the massive "home crowd advantage" that Lewandowski would have had was pretty much non-existent.
4) His PR, as well as season best were far superior to Lewandowski and the others.
All he had to do was go to the front right at the start and don't get mixed caught inside in 5th place. Then he noticed that Lewandowski is going to run super slow so he can kick at the end and was in a hurry to get to the front, collided with the other Polish runner who rightfully didn't make room for him (why should he?) and stepped outside. Absolutely fair DQ, there is like zero reason why a challenge would ever be accepted.
I admit that Jakob was fitter and would have won, but he lost due to his inexperience and own mistakes. Just because it's indoor and turns are tight does not mean he can do whatever he wants and forget about rules.
