Yea, that's always been a bit weird for me about Chris Chavez - he seems more focused on being friends with his subjects (track & field athletes, pro runners) than being an actual reporter.

Don't really follow other pro sports or read/watch other sports media so is this common in other sports (blurry lines between media and athletes)?

Dan Patrick can get this way on his radio show, he would be the only analogous figure I can recall. It's weird because it detracts from the actual conversation for public consumption, the inside jokes should be kept off the air. Plus you can't trust him to ask anything remotely probing or insightful as a result.

Exactly, it digresses into softball city pretty quickly.

I don't know why you think a couple of marathons trump an exponentially greater number of high school track runners who obviously focus on place as a primary concern (that's what gets the team points), but I really don't see any point to spending more time speculating about it. You're right, stud runner. Track runners don't care about times. That's what makes this website so weird, because I'm looking on the front page, and what do I see? Times!

Grant Holloway ran a WR of 7.29 for 60m hurdles! But really, who cares - we just want to know what place he got.

Eliud Kipsang ran a 3:51.73 split on a DMR...who cares? What place was he?

Antonio Lopez Segura set an ACC indoor 5K record in 13:49...they should have just said he got 1st place and left it at that, right?

"NC State won the women's DMR thanks to Elly Henes’ closing 1600 meters time of 4:33.80." Why mention her time? It's irrelevant. REAL competitors like Ex D1 G5 probably don't even know what their PR's are because they are too competitive and all-around amazing.
