Dear David,
I mean this from the bottom of my heart.
I believe you need 3/5 of the following points to be a better than average runner, 4/5 of the following points to be a national class runner, and 5/5 of the following points to be world class (think a sub 4 mile)
-Good genetics, meaning good muscle fiber balance and a naturally strong Vo2Max system.
-A good healthy diet and sleep schedule
- A strong “whatever it takes” attitude
-Good, consistent training
-High Pain tolerance
David, I mean this with all of the love in my heart. But you’d score a 0/5 on this test if taken today.
I don’t even give myself the genetics point, and I could run a 6:30 mile with 0 training as an overweight pre pubescent 13 year old.
Obviously you can change David, I started out my running journey with a 30:36 5k. I slowly worked on developing the skills that a person can change and 5 years later I’m getting ready run sub 15:30 in the 5k.
David, as a 19 year old you don’t have enough time to get your mile time under 4 minutes. Can you even run at sub 4 pace for a 100m right now?
Focus on fixing your attitude, get your body strong, eat better, find better daily habits, and (pardon my language) stop being a little b!tch.
I already score 3/5. I just don't have talent or the ability to train consistently due to injuries.
