Here's another luridly fascinating thing about Trump that this little performance of his highlights:
He believes his ability to get away with doing whatever he wants in his financial dealings makes him an alpha, and that those who can't or won't intervene to stop him are weak and stupid by comparison (e.g. remember what he said to H. Clinton in response to accusations of tax evasion-- "That just makes me smart."). He clearly doesn't respect anyone who simply lets him do what he wants. Yet, when someone finally intervenes to stop him, he's shocked and totally indignant. Trump all but dares people to challenge him, then appears shocked when someone actually does!
You could say this applies to his politics, too, except that in that arena I think he actually believes a lot of the crap he says (in part because many of his supporters clearly do). This has never been the case wrt to his money. He knows he's a cheat and con man, and he knows others know it too. He just thinks that's how the game is played, and that he's winning it.
This and not the criminal cases is the one that will undo him psychologically.
