The 800 and 200 were bonkers.
Cook-Gallardo probably going to focus on the 800 this season after that performance. Sidenote: Little Cook-Gallardo showing promise by getting under 50, but not exactly a stacked field and Supinski will not be beaten that easily most of the time.
Bethel probably wishing there was a 4x200 outdoors. Seriously GD fast.
The 800m is STACKED this year! 8 MIAC runners went 1:56 or faster at this meet. About 14 under 2:00. Albeit a few, such as Bugler, won't run the open 800m, the point still stands. Also, welcome to the party Nolan Ebner (Macalester). A 1:53 off of a 1:59 seed time. Hot damn.
Tough go for "dark horse" Huffman of Bethel with a 2:00 800m. Hope he can bounce back.
Trevor Smith and THE Paul Timm run 15:03 and 15:04, respectively. Really sound showing by them today, setting them up nicely.
Whole host of guys near the 4:00 barrier for the 1500m. Would love to have a good number dip under later in the season to make conference a little juicier, you know, following Coffey, Dobson and company.
Great showing by Lachlan Hinwood in the steeple, as well! 9:38 opener is nothing to scoff at. And don't forget Parker Rosenau (st. Thomas) coming in at 9:40. The steeple might have a sneakily deep field this year.
Any other notable performances this weekend?

Why would he do that? He's got the best wheels in the 1500 nationally and has proven his mettle going up in distance.
He said that his focus is still the 1500m
Hamline was hot wrote:

Not only did ebner run 1:53, he negative split (57 mid 55 high) as he got boxed in early and looked really smooth in the finish. Donson went out in 53 mid and held on, but also looked smooth
He is legit. That was freaking awesome to watch. He's always been good, just never healthy. I love this.
Also, I could be wrong, but I think Donson went 52 then held on. I sure hope ebner is the real deal as opposed to the, no offense, gustavus 800m runner.
This is genuine. I don't even go to Mac.
Who else isn't "the real deal", oh wise one? Tell us, that we may expel their all-conference performances from the annals of history.

Unless your name is DCG or Evan Hatton you're not really in a position to be throwing shade at that Gustavus runner. Not sure why we are bashing guys running in arguably the most exciting event in MIAC mid distance in years. Sounds like you are probably jealous your 1:59 won't be scoring this year. The MIAC has a great group of 800 runners this year and hopefully they can push each other to some smoking fast times.
What the hell makes someone the "real deal?"

Running a 1:53 after sitting indoors because your bones are made of glass.
It is just stupid how tight the 800 final could be.
You have all those fast times from the Hamline meet: DCG, Ebner, Krause, Hatton, Bjork, and Withbroe. Sikes and Karlson weren't messing around either.
AND that list is missing Fredrickson, Krogman, Eggers, and Lillehaugen, the 2-5th place finishers indoors.
Frederickson and Eggers haven't ran outdoors yet (according to TFRRS). Krogman ran a 50.25 400, and Lillehaugen ran a 4:01.58 1500m.
At least 1 of these guys isn't even going to make the final. Those 800 heats will be interesting.
Actually, though. A few 1:54 guys might not even make finals this year. That is incredible. This will be one of the races I am most looking forward to.
I will also be looking forward to the men's 10k and 5k. With no clear favorite as of yet, barring Coffey doubling up with the 5k, they will be very fun races to watch.
As we're talking about the 800, lets not forget about the 4th place finisher last year at conference. I'm betting Burback takes a big leap this outdoor and finishes high at conference again.
He is going to have to go through Huffman first.

I'm going sub 60 for the last lap. And I dare anyone to keep up.
Since nobody has the guts to make predictions, I guess I'll go first.
800: Krause, Ebner, Withbroe, Hatton, Krogman. More sit and kick than usual. Without DCG, no one wants to lead early. Hatton ends up with it. Krause on his shoulder for 650m. Everyone else closes fast.
1500: Cook-Gallardo, Coffey, Bjork, Lillehaugen, Eggers. This is assuming that Olaf guys abandon the 800, and then allow a SIT and kick race (becasue it's close to nattys) that helps Cook-Gallardo and Lillehaugen.
5000: Newsum, Lerdall, Lehn, Logan, Jones. Self explanatory.
10000: Newsum, Kuzara, ??? Who even runs the 10k? Wouldn't be surprised if Newsum didn't after indoor.
Steeple: Bugler, Timm, O'Hare, Knobbe, Dammann. Self explanatory. Hope Knobbe gets back at it.
Let's get this Jerry Cook hype train rolling. Coffey is DONE
Anyone know why Ryan stepped off the track during steeple at St. John's? He was looking really strong.

I was on hand for this meet and can provide some insight to some of the events.
The steeplechase was rather odd. A UMD athlete and a Michigan Tech athlete basically traded blows for the first three laps. I mean that literally. Bugler then assumed the lead. Bugler clicked off laps between 74-76, then stepped off with about a lap and a half to go. Sources tell me he woke up with a stomach virus, or food poisoning of some sorts. Looked good enough other than that.
The 400m was the Bethel show. The wind had picked up a bit, so that affected some of the sprints. They still had quite the showing, sweeping the top 5 spots with 50.xx or faster.
The 800m was strategic despite the characters in the race. One would assume that with Krause, Supinski, and Fredrickson that the pace would be hot. They settled in quickly for, if I remember correctly, a 59-ish first lap. Supisnki took the lead with 300m to go, then Fredrickson made the pass with 200m to go, then Krause tried to make a move with 100m to go and took him to the line. Great race to watch and some impressive negative splits by the rest of the field behind them.
The 1500m was another odd one. Chalmer from Minnesota Morris took it out in a 62 then was reeled back in. He sat until the last lap then finished up strong for a 4:01. Haugan and others were pretty spread out and maintained the same position till the end.
The 5k was a tough one to watch. Essentially the pain train with how the wind picked up. The pack included Knobbe, Jones, Dammann, and Kuzara for the first 2 miles going through in about 10:05. Then the wheels came off for a few of the guys, Jones maintained his pace and finished in 15:33, and the rest were all spread out by about 50m each.
Anyone else want to provide insight on the La Crosse meet? Looked like a good one. I am assuming the 1500m was strategic in its running?
