Did anybody notice that after the finish, it looked like Bekele didn't want contact with Kipsang when he approached him, or was it just my perception???
Ethiopians are not a forgetful lot! They remember what happened when Haile Geb outkicked Kenya's Josphat MAchuka back in 1992!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPCx54m-nFEAnd Wilson Kipsang as the fastest policeman on earth, Kenenisa thought, "He is either going to kill me or arrest me and put me in jail for good!"
I thought Bekele was done. Shocked and pleased by his run today.

Let's all remember that this time of 2:03:03...is just Bekele at 80% to 90%.
I will let all the math experts here at LetsRun.com…do the math…to see what time Kenenisa Bekele will run at 100%.
OK?
(This is really going to be fun to watch.)
Oh yea.
You are one of the most psychotic posters on letsrun... And that's not easy
I still think Eliud Kipchoge's performance in London is much better than today's KB's. In London Kipchoge wasn't chasing the World record and did not even know he was close until it was too late. At no point did he seem to struggle at all and even managed to "sprint" the last few meters or so. To miss the world record by 7 seconds under those circumstances is just surreal. Can't wait to see the match up in 2017 London marathon. If the weather is good and the pace making as good as London this year and the athletes be in similar shape, expect a time out of this world, but no 2:01 any time soon.

He was done pretty quickly.

Well, technically no, he wasn't handed the water bottles. Instead, his team opted to swoop in by helicopter and pick Bekele up. No biggie, usually the airlift was for only about a half mile or so. Inside the helicopter Bekele grabbed his own water bottle. So, no foul.
If you didn't see the race you didn't miss much. Bekele would drop back from Kipsang every now and then so that when his chopper crew came down you could just barely see some wind effects on the screen as the cameras were focusing on Kipsang.
Anyway, no foul. Better find something else to talk about.
Waste of keystrokes. All I wanted to know was what happened around 20K when someone on this thread on p. 5 said that Jos Hermans handed Bekele a bottle. I haven't seen the race or the replay. Normally, drinks aren't handed to elite marathoners by their managers in the midst of a marathon. I'm sure if it was an issue, it would've already been examined and a DQ issued. I'm just curious what happened and where because it sounded odd and unusual. Receiving special aid in a race that isn't available to the other racers is a rules violation.
Get over yourself.
It definitely happened, I joked about Jos, it was at either the 20k, 25k, or 30k drinks stop. The English commentators on my TV spotted him, personally I could tell him from a bar of soap, but I'm suspicious about him.

Still no answer to the simple question. Did Josh Hermans hand Bekele his bottle around 20K? Was it at a water station? Or was the poster on p. 5 just making up stuff?
I didn't see it. I'm just curious. No big deal. Why the antagonism?

Thanks. That's all I wanted to know. I'm curious to see it on the replay that NBC will show on Monday.

How is that description of Kipchoge's race different than Bekele's?
You say Kipchoge sprinted a few meters. Bekele ran the last 200m at near 4:00 pace. Bekele also wasn't chasing the world record. He also wasn't struggling.

Sorry somebody just posted a thread, saying it was the 40km mark, I personally thought it was early than this but I was probably wrong.

Probably, but definitely 40.17km mark, if this was a two loop circuit (???) It would make sense because he would be at the same spot. How he gets so close the action, it astonishes me, just look at field events or tennis, coaches aren't allowed near the competitive area.
MUCH better? Hilarious. There are no running performances in history that are MUCH better than Bekele's race today. There are probably a few that are a little bit better, and I would acknowledge Kipchoge's run as one of those.

Definitely 20k and 40k.

'rules technicality' if you're really, really interested, as you appear to be, go to 56min20sec of the video, 20k mark and 1hr56min20sec, 40k mark and you will see Jos Hermens, grey hair, black T shirt, grey pants handing KB his drink. He is the only person not wearing a red top amongst all the red top wearing officials at the drinks tables and the only one getting his drinks handed to him. 'rt', go for it son.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtsIYDy8Z8s&sns=twScrub this bit "only one getting his drinks handed to him".

I bet that was part of the deal to get him to run in Berlin. Interestingly, after the drinks he would slow for 3 minutes but would then surge. I wonder what's in it?
