This thread was originally titled, "Incredible development in the $612,000 Transcon Goodge run, currently ongoing" but the new title is more descriptive. The description of the run is here.
Why are you only confused now when the data represented what we're seeing here? This happened (to a slightly lesser degree) following Will C's previous emails to the group - every single time he applied pressure the data problems were diminished to gone, and when they were gone the speeds looked like they do above (i.e. notably different).
Those mythical 110 HR sessions don't exist under surveillance and Will C. knows that.
Per his latest FB post:
"We'll see what today brings, but I for one am really glad that there should never now be another day of WG regularly dropping into the 110s while running 6 minute Ks. We all know what he does for them because he did a bunch yesterday: 156bpm"
I've never done a big multi-day effort, so what the hell do I know, but it definitely seems like additional on-the-ground investigation was needed. If he's doing this legit though, I wonder how disruptive WC's presence has been on the effort.
But they don’t look any different as per my comment above. He wasn’t running any faster before being observed. You are taking WVC’s word for it without actually liking at the data.
Someone mentioned on Facebook that strava only includes moving time. Standing still while resting is not calculated. For example, a 18 minute Mile with three two minute standing rest periods would appear as a 12 minute mile on strava. And this mile would obviously result in a lower heart rate than the miles with continuous running.
Late in his afternoons he is probably stopping a lot.
Would this not be a logical explanation for the oddball 110-120 heart rates? Also a logical explanation for negative splits?
Has willvlc been compromised? We need the brojos or Gault to send someone out there for additional verification.
Or this could have been the plan from the very beginning! Willvlc could have been an accomplice. Stir some drama for additional publicity, "verify" the run and possibly discourage anyone else from checking.
I am just kidding :) Mostly )))
This actually seems more likely than what is being presented as the truth. Look at the two scenarios objectively:
A - Some guy spends thousands of dollars and a week of his time, flies across the world to run in the desert with someone he doesn't know to protect the sanctity of an unofficial record that almost nobody knows or cares about.
B - Goodge (cheating or not) leaves a low hanging fruit in the data, has someone on his team jack up publicity via a 20-page LR thread, FB and Instagram drama, only to be vindicated when that secret friend comes out and verifies the attempt. In the scale of planning a cross-country trip this is trivial.
Will is apparently also now okay with some of the runs starting a few miles down the road from where the last one stopped? Wouldn't that immediately invalidate the attempt anyway?

To be honest that was me taking a quick look at data but no you've called me out I've properly checked and I was wrong. It is roughly the same (no strong evidence that the mean running speeds are any different).
Fair does, looks like it's all authentic IMHO.
Obviously I'd have captured the data directly but he's doing an epic job running it (and raising money/inspiring people ect).

Definitely A). If you followed Will Cockrell on FB for last few years you'd know A) is 100% in his wheel house.

It is A. His time isn't that constrained, can't speak for his money.

makes sense to me.
Strava reports both moving time and total elapsed time when you click on an activity's details.
Willvlc uploaded a video to the Facebook Jogle group today. He has now man-bonded with Goodge with some personal time together with just the 2 of them. It's over, Willvlc has capitulated. Goodge is just too handsome.
I had high hopes for this thread. I thought we would be tracking them through the wee hours of the night in Paducah Kentucky with boots on the ground outside the greasy spoon diner just like Rob Young. Are we not calling in Laz Lake for his ultra expertise?
I have a theory why his mentality seemed to shift to varying degrees when he was actually there on the scene, but I will save it for when he returns safely.
I really respect him for making the trip out and witnessing firsthand what was unfolding., despite many critics and naysayers.

Watching the Rob Young tracker hanging out in the hospital parking lot after he ran himself into the ground was pretty much the high point of LetsRun for me.

It's because Will C unknowingly was smelling the pheromones Goodge gives off in enormous amounts and fell in man-love. You can't smell pheromones through the internet.

And when he comes back home, he will return to his senses, I believe.
There is currently an army of Goodge supporters on Facebook attempting to force Will C. into declaring the event 100% clean and legit. Fortunately, he has maintained his integrity thus far.
