From that article, I see that Parra started running at 5½.
"When I was about five and a half -- I think I had done around a week of practice -- [my dad] came up to me after practice and told me, 'I think you can be the best in the world,'" Parra said.
I separately read an article about Hanne Thomsen, and she began running in 4th grade. These top runners have been training for years and years. Kudos to them. Not easy to avoid injury and burnout, especially as they go through their teenage years.
Not uncommon for good athletes to start at a very young age. As long as they have a great support system at home and good balance of training they can have long term goals.

Jakob is a perfect example.
Didn’t Lex and Leo Young start running at that age?
Way too early and probably wrong takeaways from these results and Coolbreeze despite teams probably not running their hardest:
NP Boys look like they have a solid top 3 that would be competitive at a national level in Doshi Shetty and Guevara and then a slew of 15-16 3 minute milers. I still think they are a dark horse NXN candidate if those guys can transfer those 3 mile times to high 15 minute 5K's at State. The course they ran here was pretty flat, but definitely more elevation than Woodbridge will be. Maybe their transfers will be the key to pushing them over the edge.
NP Girls didn't run varsity, but it seems like they don't have anyone unknown and better that could step up mid season. They might lose before state tbh with how their division is shaping up. Coolbreeze was not a good look for them.
OC Boys I can see why Prepcaltrack had them ranked high before losing their top runner before the season. Those times are crazy good compared to their historical times. Like if they had a 5th runner, I could honestly see them maybe winning their state division or at least making the podium. And they still have next year to get even better since all their top guys aren't even Seniors. Transfers, if you can stomach like 45K a year tuition, you can maybe win Div 4 State if you go to OC.
OC Girls top 5 is just too slow to contend with revamped JSerra this year. Gotta have low 18 minute 3 miles to even have a chance. Last year I still think they could have squeaked out a win and NXN berth with just slightly better luck. This year I think they still get second at state but have no shot at a time merge qualification to NXN. Guess we'll see what Woodbridge shows. Godsey looking dominant though, hope she accepts NXN solo invite if the team doesn't make the meet.
RIP in peace Agoura and TO. Marmonte league turned into a two team horse race vs the super competitive place it was just last year or the year before.

Boys in California are weak with year. Most likely only get 2 teams to NXN with no at large

I still think San Clemente, Mira Costa, Ventura and Great Oak are all nationally competitive teams that could beat out other NXN berth teams. I think they get at least 1 at large with maybe GO falling off the back and missing out on a 2nd at large.

They wouldn’t all need to run extremely well at Clovis on a course everyone knows

Dana Hills can turn into a nationally competitive team by the end of the season. Remember 2019 when they were mediocre at the beginning, and at NXN they finished 8th? Also Trabuco Hills is deep and will be even better with Williams back.
So why weren’t Michael and Gabriel Rodriguez from Great Oak racing?
Heard they got pulled for skipping practices.
I wonder what Doug Soles would have done with them. Before he came into Herriman he probably saw A LOT of kids like that there.
There probably still are kids like that at Herriman, but not fast enough to be one of their varsity guys. The same might have been true at Great Oak when Soles coached them.

"... Another high-impact development involved Oaks Christian — who we originally pegged as the #6 team in the state — sliding down several spots as its projected top returnee has decided to drop the sport in favor of pickleball. Yes, we are serious. ..."
Imagine being good enough to potentially get an individual NXN qualification and you go to pickleball.
Oak Christian would of beaten Newbury Park this week at their league meet if their top runner didn't leave running for pickleball.
