The Japanese runners are the most normal looking people here. All the white dudes look like weird hipsters. Scrawny, obnoxious haircuts and beards. Any vegans in the race today? lol

Does anyone know if Jim Walmsley is on pace for a 100 km PR (7:05)?
They said he reached 90k in about 6:09(?), so he'll probably set a 20 minute PB.

I'm surprised by the people who are finding any reason, at all, to badmouth Walmsley. He broke a 35-year-old world record. He did that on a warm day. It's a great achievement, period.
The fact that he set this world record within the confines of a slightly/moderately longer race seems irrelevant to me. Kejelcha just missed the 1500 WR in the course of running the mile WR. He was going for both. That occasionally happens. If he'd gotten the 1500 WR but missed the mile WR, would people here be badmouthing him? Probably.
Walmsley must have realized, as it warmed up, that no WRs were going to be set at 100K. So he went for it. More power to him.
Man, the way people are talking, nobody should ever attempt a WR unless you know it's going to be broken. He broke a freakin' WR!! Kipchoge attempted a sub-2 marathon, that wouldn't have even been a WR mind you, and didn't make it. Is he a failure? Hell no. He challenged himself to a very tough goal and went for it. It was amazing to watch but he didn't make it. Jim went out for a sub-6 100k. And was on pace for a long time. The fact people are taking joy in the fact he didn't get the 100k WR is crazy.
We do not badmouth Walmsley. Good for him he broke a WR. But we wanted to see him tackle the 100 km distance. It's a freakin' 100 km race!

Anyone? I can't find a recent split or prediction?
Gre at race for Hideaki Yamauchi . 6:20:55
To bad that he couldn't get a new PB.
Anyway this is the best performance for this year so far and it probably will be the best at the end of 2019.

Someone answered above.
Also what place is Walmsley currently in?

Jim is at 57.4 miles right now.

I've never NEVER observed a legit track, XC, or road race where an athlete goes balls-out in pursuit of a "en route record" and then spends the rest of the actual race laughing, clowning, slapping high fives, walking.
Let's be real. This isn't real athletics. This is country club nonsense, catered towards a select group of rich white weirdos. Embarrassing.

Thanks! I had missed that.

Lol he just ran 50 miles in under 5 hours. Not one poster on this board could do that. GTFOH.

Bill Rodgers got the 25k and 30k track records, his 5k split from 25 to 30 slowed down dramatically.
You meant 'on' not 'in' I guess!!

Just keep in mind that South Africa is far away from any other country with races. That might be the main reason why you don't see many South Africans running 100k's.
You don't seem to know much about the running setup in SA....the smorgasbord of races week in and week out is the envy of runners all over the world...they do not 'have' to go elsewhere, it is already all there for them.
Comrades will always be the #1 goal for any ultra runner over there.
You make as if countries around the world have competitive 100km races...even this one would not have happenned unless contrived for a commercial goal
