DGN’s top 6 (7 on a good day) are all probably better than South’s 3/4 (and there is a decent gap between their 3/4 and their 5). Remember that Eddington and Weber were All State last year, Schroeder has been up with them all year long, Cupial defeated the defending state champion to win Regionals (and was 3 seconds behind him to place second at the toughest conference in the state). At Sectionals, Surratt was DGN’s 5th runner and was ahead of every other team’s second runner except for Strayer of Lyons. And Bender was their 6th runner ahead of every 3rd runner except Lyons and every other 2nd runner except Neuqua, Hinsdale, and West Aurora. Plainfield South honestly has a team that would probably win most years, but I think some people are forgetting how dominant DGN has been due to them not racing a ton mid season. A 23 second split on 5 runners also beats the 58 second split of South, and DGN’s pack will not be 35 seconds behind Viger/Maloney.
