Welp, Uncle Joe's a-movin' kinda slow...but (oh so) gradually upward in approval rating, to 43.x%. His main progress remains his downward trend in unpopularity--now approaching 50%.
Huh. Well I am surprised: Per 538 Joe's approval rating is the highest it's been in a year and the disapproval rating is the lowest in more than a year. Didn't expect that because gas prices are still going up though they're lower than a month ago.
Maybe find some new material other than posting gas prices every 2 weeks.
‘We need more guns. We need more good guys with guns.’

A 6-year-old first-grader at an elementary school in Newport News, Va., shot a teacher on Friday afternoon during an altercation in a classroom, the authorities said, leaving her with “life-threatening” injuries and renewing calls for greater gun restrictions. The boy, who shot the teacher once with a handgun at about 2 p.m., was in police custody on Friday evening, Steve Drew, the chief of the Newport News Police Department, said at a news conference. He added that the teacher, a woman in her 30s, was taken to a local hospital and that her condition had slightly improved by late Friday afternoon.

Gas prices are still going up? Up from where? In the summer, gas prices were over $5 a gallon everywhere. Today, there are several states where gas is around $2.50 a gallon. Gas prices are at reasonable prices today. Still going up? What?
Some really great unifying messages in McCarthy's first speech as Speaker of the House. You never heard anything unifying from Pelosi. She just wanted to divide and conquer. Just a shame how divisive she and the Democrats were.
This stuff is really great ...
After his victory in the 15th and final vote, McCarthy lauded: "I hope one thing is clear after this week: I will never give up. I will never give up for you, the American people. And I will never give up on keeping our Commitment to America."
"Our nation is worth fighting for," he added in his opening remarks.
About as good as it gets ..
"As Speaker of the House, my ultimate responsibility is not to my party, my conference, or even our Congress. My responsibility – our responsibility – is to our country," the Californian continued. "Two months ago, you voted for a new direction for our country. You embraced our Commitment to America. And now, we are going to keep our commitment to you."
Well done Mr. McCarthy. Get rid of the poisonous partisanship and bring the country back together.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy delivered his first address after winning the position during a 15th and final vote. In his speech, he laid out his legislative priorities.
the fact that they don't see the vast right wing grift machine just lies and distorts and twists, for kicks and for cash...it's amazing to see and deeply depressing.
The Democratic party gives "free sh*t" to stupid people to buy votes and directly harm the country and you think they're the good guys. The fact that there's tens of millions of people this stupid is far more depressing.

He is willing to go down fighting for this country. We definitely chose the best speaker for the House. Good things are finally going to happen. No more witch hunts. Just prosperity for the country. Well done, Kevin!!

BS. Every Speaker of the House has given a similar speech upon getting the gavel. McCarthy is a fool, and he is entering his Speakership as the weakest Speaker in US history. He will have to kowtow to those moron radicals in his party. The House majority for the GOP is too narrow for him to be able to do anything that he'd like to do.
Predictit is down to a 60% chance of mccarthy becoming speaker. If the GOP screws this up we'll all see how unfit to govern they are. But the problem is that there are a dozen or so GOP Reps who actively want to burn it all down. They don't believe in the Fed gummint and they want it to fail. So what incentive is there for them to cave?
I picked up shares when he was down to 47c... I was worried for a minute, but it was a bunch of drama over nothing

A bunch of drama over nothing? He only got elected because the detractors voted "Present" instead of against him, and they did that only after he bowed to their wishes. They ensured that he is the weakest Speaker in the history of the United States. They showed that the GOP is seriously divided and will do a horrible job at governing.

You are a moron.
Does this mean democracy is saved? Or is it the end of democracy.
To be frank, it is embarrassing for the Dems trot out the old and tired partisan crap when McCarthy is working on unifying the country. Hakeem Jefferies, just a total embarrassment on his speech. Just vitriol and poisonous against the Republicans.
Contrast that with mcCarthy's unifying message. Just as stark as can be how the Repubs want to unite the country and the Dems are hell-bent on dividing it.

Nothing that any of these Republicans are doing is good for Democracy. McCarthy is bad enough on his own, and now he gave the most insane ones in his party a bigger voice. You should be embarrassed to align yourself with these morons.

The night Trump won, I was staying up late and ended up watching his speech. In that speech, he spoke of unifying the country. Over the next week, month, year, etc., he mostly worked to do the opposite. Preaching unity is just something you do when you have to preach unity.

How could he have unified the country when the Dems/Libs spent every waking hour after the election trying to reverse the election and bring Trump down?

McCarthy will be saying similar things in about a week. That's the point. Unity now, division later. Whatever works best politically at the time. It's just a strategy
If you read the story below and condemn it, you have just condemned the Republican Party. If you look at this insurrection in Brazil as a banana republic move in a sh/thole country, you have just called the US a banana republic and sh'thole country. What your party did on Jan 6 2021 is exactly what happened today in Brazil.
BRASILIA — Thousands of radical backers of Brazil’s far-right ex-president Jair Bolsonaro breached and vandalized the presidential office building, congress and the Supreme Court on Sunday, and sought to enter other halls of power, in scenes that hauntingly evoked the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol by supporters of former president Donald Trump. Are you on Telegram? Subscribe to our channel for the latest updates on Russia’s war in Ukraine. The attack came a week after the inauguration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who defeated Bolsonaro in a runoff election in October. Images on Globo TV showed protesters roaming the halls and standing near smashed glass cases in the Planalto Palace, the office of the president. Thousands of others wearing the national soccer shirt — now a symbol of the far right — and waving the Brazilian flag milled about the massive square outside in a part of the Brasilia capital that is similar to Washington’s National Mall. Advertisement “This absurd attempt to impose the will by force will not prevail,” Lula’s justice minister Flavio Dino tweeted shortly after the invasion began around 2:30 p.m. local time. “The Government of the Federal District claims that there will be reinforcements. And the forces at our disposal are at work. I’m at the headquarters of the Ministry of Justice.” The incident captured the uncanny parallels between Bolsonaro and his political lodestar, Trump, and came after months in which pundits have feared a Jan. 6 style copycat action here.
