Good lord, those lists for Americans are weak.
The Japanese had every opportunity to beat Rupp in the olympics. They did not. Rupp has run all his marathons in the heat and has done well at all. These guys in Tokyo would have run 211 in warm weather.

Interesting how those soooo slooow US runners consistently beat your 2:03 & 2:04 super fast runners...
This is hilarious this guy is acting like Americans has won tons of majors recently. Rupp has one win in a slow race that was led by Andrew freaking Bumbalough for an hour and a half. Bumbalough. It was embarrassing to watch. Flanagan had a great win but everyone knows peak Mary was not there and she would have beaten the field by several minutes.
They should cancel the world championships and olympics really. Those medals are pretty worthless really only fast times count. Just call Sir Mo Farah in his mansion so big he can't even hear the door bell.
Letsrun Lo0sers!
Well, that was an exciting marathon to read about page-by-page after the fact
The ignorance is strong in this thread from both sides.
A few facts for everyone
Europe is the epicentre of athletics races(it's where all the best go to compete)
Rupp is a hell of a marathon runner(closing a 2:09.20 race with a last 10k of 28:30 is incredible and very few if any outside of Kipchoge has that ability)
Japan has a huge history of International marathon winners(3rd all-time on Olympic and World medalists)
American Marathon running is on the rise again after a long drought
You are all a bunch of ignornant fools
These are all facts. Now please shut up.
Amy Cragg, along with Shalane, is nails. Fantastic effort that keeps her in the discussion for 2020.
Interesting how the women's times for U.S. stack pretty well from 2:19-2:21, then a massive FOUR MINUTE gap, the picks back up for 2:25, 2:26 etc.. What goes on here?

This. x10000.
I really can't tell if people are trolling or being serious with the "Rupp is a 2:09 marathoner" nonsense. Why can't you people just be happy that we actually have an internationally competitive marathoner?
No way an athlete in an international event should get more prize money for breaking the National record, than for winning the event. Thats discriminatory and just plain wrong.
Are the results online?

japanese cheat out if their a**es, it's their culture.
Japanese T&F doping busts: 0 (zero, zilch, nada, nai) in all of recorded human history
American T&F doping busts: innumerable, and counting
So tell me again, my verbally challenged little friend -- whose culture is corrupt?

I thought the same. Specifically, the sh1ts. I like Kipsang, if it wasn't for Kipchoge, he would be considered the GOAT. Hell, reasonable arguments could still be made for that title.

Yeah, he looked as if he was experiencing stomach issues. He did't look tired or winded, more of a feeling ill look on his face.
London or Boston has to be in the mix now. He basically ran a hard 10 mile tempo run.
Stomach issues after 45 minutes of running?

If it was a stomach ache why didn’t he just go to the bathroom like the rest of us? Is that against the rules?

Something is going on, and the running world is definitely going to talk about it. When it happened last year, it wasn't a big deal, because of the weather, and he wasn't known for DNFing. However, now, in back to back years, there are going to be a lot of questions.
I know Adidas is pissed. He is their main runner, no doubt about it. That wasn't a good look for the new sub 2 shoes either. If Kipsang does not get it together, I imagine adidas focusing more on Adola in the next year or so.
Can't have DNFs while in a running shoe war with Nike.
Not trolling. I think it’s a fair question. His PR is over a minute faster than anyone else in the field. Pretty sure he could go potty in less than sixty seconds. And he had 17 miles left to make up whatever time he lost.
When Tommy Persson won the Stockholm Marathon in the early 1980s, he just told the runners behind him to watch out, pulled down his shorts a little, and took a dump while running.

Technically, it wasn't prize money, because it wasn't paid by the race organizers. It was an incentive reward offered by the national governing body. And Shitara would have received it even if he'd broken the record in Chicago, London, Berlin, or any other race certified for record purposes. He just happened to do it at home.
Would you have the same complaint if USATF or a rich track fan were to offer $1 million to any American who breaks the AR?

That was on record-eligible courses. I realize that without the wind, she is likely 2:24-25.

The Japanese love the marathon, it is their national sport.......USA too many distractions too many team sports, and not enough runners willing to do the work required to run their best.
The American school system is constructed to produce middle distance runners, not marathoners.
