I talked with Lars at MIAC and he told me that he's out of cross eligibility. He further emphasized the fact that he won't be racing this fall because of student-teaching, but intends to come back for one last hurrah during indoor/outdoor.

How many zins will it take for Lars to get through a school day of teaching children?
It appears Power understandably mistook some Carls as Northfield Raiders and was ‘scouting’ some of them pitted against his own athletes in the steeplechase. Interesting strategy to replace Kelly, but Power’s unorthodox ideas tend to work out a lot more frequently than they probably should. With the Oles losing 3 of their top 4 steeplers, they’ll probably take whatever they can scrounge up to go with Fitzgerald to desperately develop some of their struggling freshmen and sophomores. Given the graduations and the potential rise of Concordia in the steeple, it’ll be interesting to see how the distance oriented schools try to snatch up the openings.
Huge run for Gabe, turning one one of the fastest 1500’s in MIAC history at Augustana.
If rumors are true Power will be converting Andrew Cogley into a steepler since he has failed to develop his Decathlon and hurdle group with the graduation of more of Phil’s kids and is at loss when athletes can’t walk on to run sub 10 in spite of his coaching. I haven’t heard much about the incoming recruiting class but if Power mailed it in like this year’s class the balance of power (pun intended) will surely shift.
I love the Ricks went to Olaf during their little multi to make sure Power didn’t break any rules. That shows the level of trust this clown has in the conference.
Nahhh. Ricks is just so enthusiastic he wanted to go to the meet to cheer them on. This is a little known fact, but him and Power are actually 2nd cousins! They meet up at the occasional family reunion.
Bati hadn't recovered from doing all the work at the MIAC meet, so he didn't follow up his double victory with a national qualifier, but I think it's safe to say he'll never lose to another MIAC athlete in the final two years of his collegiate career.
I mean if I was a talented runner entering prime running age in my mid 20s, I’d sure hope I could beat runners shortly removed from high school. Not to diminish Bati’s accomplishments, but it’s important to acknowledge a leg up in experience. There’s also a very real possibility of Roy or Turlington taking him down in a 3k or 5k. Pretty believable that he takes 10ks uncontested barring a large improvement from Skemp or the Mac 10kers.
Wow look guys I’m Lloyd Young 😐😐 haha 😐😐
Why does no one talk about the fact that Will Kelly is also 25. Oh he’s a grinder, oh he looks death and still finishes races. Oh he had some weird Ole nickname. The dude is 25. It’s an advantage.
He should be doing grad school at BYU. He'd be one of the younger guys.
This explains a lot though. Heard an interesting rumor that Tyler Smith is joining Tucker at Scholastica for grad school. Will Scholastica become the destination for MIACers with remaining eligibility? It's not Miami, but I can see many taking their talents to the beach.
Also saw on the Minnesota high school thread that Hootie Hague committed to Bethel. That's an All-Conference possibly national caliber guy for the Royals. Between Hootie and Lelinga, they could run the MIAC.
Oles already fluffing themselves on the new thread.
Congrats to Will Kelly on a great finish to a great career. If you know him, the kid truly is a testament to where dedication and commitment can take you in the sport. Go ahead and keep talking about mediocre non-Northfield runners who couldn't even qualify for a high school state meet though...
Say what you want about Power, but Will Kelly is another excellent case study that points to his competency as a coach.
Congrats Will Kelly. A finely run race!
As a MIC coach, I am so impressed by your career and so glad to hear you are graduating today. Please make sure all your friends follow you across that stage and good luck in Montana.
I cannot wait to see Will Kelly run 20 seconds faster next year. Coaching matters folks.
Getting within 20 seconds of Wilkinson would be a huge victory.
Or like living at 5000 feet and having the support systems of a d1 program will help. Saying a person getting better after transfering d1 is an indictment Power is crazy. Mop is an exceptional athlete and an even better guy. I do not understand how he can have that career and you somehow think it reflects poorly on Power.
The season isn't over! Bati and several MIAC alumni.
Only several...
