After every regional, Jonathan Gault will be running Bo Waggoner's program to see who is in and out. He'll post the results on the live blog on the front page: https://www.letsrun.com/events...
Oregon has so many freshman studs and Steury transferring in. And Jerry blows off the year. What is he doing? Training them a year and see who survives?? In the long term... everybody dies. These are college kids. Let them race. Nothing is given.
Oregon with one runner in the top 30. Jerry should be fired today for this monstrosity.
He didn't have the horses. The younger guys are not quite ready and the older runners are not talented enough. It will take a few years. On the other hand, the women finished 2nd and with two good recruiting classes and the talented transfers will be very good starting next year.
Its a weird sport when if Grand Canyon had guys jog round at the back to make up a team CBU would beat Portland but becasue they don't Portland beats CBU.
Stanford and Gonzaga going 1-2 is really going to give out the at large points
Stanford will hopefully execute at nationals. Their #3 today showed up in comparison to his track credentials. Gonzaga will likely bomb to shreds like they normally do, but that will smith guy looks to be an all American.
This was typical west coast track XC. The true strong teams will emerge at that hilly potentially muddy VA course. Portland over CBU, no surprise Portland shows up. Let’s see how well CBU does next week, they showed at wisco they’re capable of performing in “true” cross country conditions/ terrain in comparison to a CA grass track.
Looks like Oregon is sending one individual for the men’s. Without a heavy hitter guy who was seemingly healthy in a recent instagram post as well.
I've only been following because of my high school kids. I have a pretty decent idea of how NXN works, I think, but how many auto bids come from regionals? Are there at large bids as well? Sorry for my ignorance and thanks in advance!
That's a tight 3-5 team point finish. Does Washington go home because of Gonzaga and Portland?
Washington was probably not going to go anyway unless they finished top 2. The real story is CBU getting fourth - they were projected to WIN and had bar far and away the most at large points, and now it looks like they are going to push Portland in.
There was nothing revealing that would change any minds today. NCSt continues to look great. Bush seems to be coming along a bit. As much as I'd love NAU (who is also deep and strong) to beat the Wolfpack, it is not too likely, imo. It's possible for sure, but it would be an upset. Individually, Valby will go to the front, and then we'll see. I don't think she'll just run away with it, but I wouldn't be shocked if she wins. I'd be more surprised if she doesn't podium. As much as people talk, both Valby and Tuohy ran phenomenally last year (with exceptional timing from Tuohy), and we're fortunate to have a rematch. The field appears a bit better overall upfront, so it will not be a surprise to see others contending.
On the guys side, NAU and OKSt were both extremely impressive today. I think they'll both post scores next weekend that would usually win it, and I'll call it a toss-up. Individually, there could be 10 guys, which is remarkable. Overall, the fields for both the women and men seem really superb.
It looks like Colorado is a little down. Does the Wetmore bluntly-speaking style no longer have the same purchase, or is it just a rebuilding year? I'm a Buffs fan, so I think they'll come back. Also, Oregon... ugh... Speaking of coming back, though, Arkansas is running well. I doubt they'll podium, but I think they'll be sticking their nose in it (which is good to see).

Welcome. In case you are looking for NXN regional results, you may be in the wrong thread.

It’s Oregon. Anyone off the street should be able to walk in and coach these guys well enough to beat Boise State.

Haha. I appreciate it. No, I'm trying to figure out which teams from the West Regionals will move on. I'm assuming Stanford and Gonzaga, so two auto bids? And from reading, it sounds like CBU had a great season, but did poorly today? However, since Portland barely beat them, they'll ride in CBU's wake and they'll both get at large bids?
Men Teams Bold are auto qualifiers by finishing top 2 at regional

I'm pretty sure they're looking for how the qualifications for the NCAA finals works - but bids, at-large bids, etc

Unlike NXN which is decided by committee, NCAA is decided almost entirely by a formula that rewards teams for going out and placing well at national races throughout the year.
2 teams AQ out of each region like in HS NXN, but then 13 spots are decided through at larges. Once the At Large process starts, whoever beat the most teams remaining that didn't AQ, gets an AL spot. Then you keep repeating the process for the next best team that beat a bunch of other teams.
Exactly. Jerry and Oregon are not working with a short term focus to barely make it to nationals this year, they're working long term to be on the podium in another year or two. And they probably will succeed.
Turns out Jerry knows far more about training champions than anyone who posts on these boards, especially the trolls who think he should be fired...
