You really think this is a positive strategy for the image of USATF and womens distance running?
LOL. You think the general public is going to be waving the American flag and rooting for Shelby?

It would be selfish AF if she runs. It stops being the trials and becomes the Shelbo show. Every BTC athlete is going to have to answer for her. Fisher, Lopez and Kincaid sweep the 10k? Well done, boys, now tell us about Houlihan, does Jerry make you all eat burritos? I think we could see some BTC athletes absolutely bomb because of this distraction. The thing they've trained for for years, and it's being tanked on the altar of one person who has been caught doping. Of the BTC athletes I'm now only backing Centro to make the team, the others will bomb out. Shelby may win, but the IOC and IAAF won't let her run the Olympics. What should have been a victory lap for BTC is going to be a disaster.

Not if she is innocent.

Are you talking about an appeal to the Swiss Supreme Court? They don't care about USATF's turf war. And I doubt if the judges are beholden to Nike. This case does not have international interest or implications that the Semenya case did.
I think USATF was just afraid to take a stand and they are hoping that Shelby pulls out on her own or somehow doesn't qualify so they are not left holding the bag.
Yes. Swiss appellate process. They may not care much about USATF, but USATF and Nike think that they are the big d#ck swingers in international sport and want to protect US athletes from what they believe to be an international doping agency that they think is out of line with Houlihan's case.
Houlihan is easily the top US medal prospect for 1500/5000. USATF and Nike do not want to go back to the days when the US was not even a factor at the OGs in the distance events. Without Houlihan, the Tokyo games could be a bust at 1500/5000.
Wow, I think this take is off in so many ways. First of all you are greatly overstating the importance of middle distance running and Shelby, in particular, to Nike. And the idea that the US will be a bust at distance events in Tokyo if Shelby doesn’t go is really a disservice to every 1500/5000 athlete competing in the trials. This is an athlete that has never won an international medal or even raced in the last year.
Nike is an international company. Only 40% of its revenue is from North America (not just the US), and how much of that do you think is from T&F, let alone from just middle distance running? Nike’s most important athlete is easily Ronaldo, who has a lifetime contract with Nike worth over a billion dollars. Yes, that’s right - $1 billion.
USATF has no influence on the Swiss Court and if Nike were to attempt to interfere with the process it would undermine the foundation of international drug testing. We might as well just let every country establish their own standards and rules.
Thanks for the reply.
Girls will be girls.
I coached girls softball and track for about 10-12 seasons. #1 Helpful tip I can give you or anyone else who has yet to have the pleasure of coaching girls, just don't do it. A lot of drama amongst the girls behind the scenes.
And that's all I have to say about that.

It would be better to unwrap the burrito. You could still get some good air time and throw on it but a better visual and more effective landing of said burrito.
So how far do you think a burrito can be thrown? (Asking for a friend.)

Remind me, is this the U.S.A, or Russia? USATF, please respect the ethics, if not the rules, we demand of all nations who complete in athletics. The whole world is watching.
The US should be banned from competing in track and field for at least this olympics. Their system is trying to accomodate doping in a similar way to Russia. It's unfair for other countries to face athletes from nations that either try to cover up doping or have convicted dopers compete.
Its amazing watching all these Americans like the Brojos be complete hypocrites and not realize it. Could you imagine their anger and disgust if Russia was allowing this? They've spent years railing against Russia supporting convicted dopers, but when its an American from a club they like, they do the exact same thing.

Think about it. If it was your family member. Would you all be on LRC trashing her?
Give an honest answer.
Does this apply to all drug cheats, including Russian, Kenyan, Ethiopian? Or is it just the Americans that get this empathy?
Nice Try. We all know that Kenyans and Ethiopians have different family structures than we do. Which is a big reason why they cheat. Its a cultural thing ya know.
As an observer, I want her to go ahead and run for the spectacle of it all. But all these clean athletes are always talking about "the moment stolen" when a doper wins or places. If she wins, she's taking the spotlight away from a national champion, runner up and 3rd place winner who will be muddled in with 4th-8th.
When Ajee was (actually) appealing, didn't they take away her record when she was under the meat influence? Is Shelby going to be treated as a ghost runner? Who will the prizes and beautiful Hayward medals go to if she places? Can the 4th place finisher assume she is going to the Olympics?
I am assuming Shelby won't win the money nor the Olympic spot. But say there's a Hail Mary pass and Switzerland sees her case and acquits her, do they take away the first place winnings from the winner? Do they tell the 4th place runner to stay home for the Olympics? How much did they think this through?

A standard one or one with 300g of uncastrated boar offal?
Oh, and this isn't over. International journalists have been talking to WADA and the AIU, and they weren't consulted on this. They're talking with lawyers to see what to do next. This is totally unprecedented, an athlete that has lost their CAS appeal has never been allowed to compete before. I think we could see her scratched before the race
Rest of the field: I've put in years of hard work and dedication to try and make the team.
Shelb: I had a 🌯 this morning

This still shoud be a running event. A burrito mile. 4 laps, 4 burritos to eat.

Yes, democrat.
Shelby has the support of patriotic Americans via Fox News.
Democrats lose again!!!

A boar offal burrito, of course!
To you old farts with better memories, didn't this same situation present itself with Butch Reynolds? If so, how did that play out. Didn't he fold at the last moment?

Hell yeah. Make it a 300g pig dong burrito. It will weight about as much as a shot put.

The burrito mile is a lot worse than the beer mile. Trust me. Lots of DQs in that one.
If Shelby was busted in January, obviously she hasn’t doped since then. This means that if she runs tomorrow, she will be “clean” and we will see her true fitness.
If she crushes everyone, it can only mean that she is telling the truth.
If she bombs, well…now we know.

Not quite, she will be running on a lot of emotion, she will be exhausted, that itself will most likely have a big negative impact on her race. Though if she runs fast under these circumstances it will remove all doubt for me that she is clean. I'd be very surprised if she even finished top 3 right now though.
